It Feels Like Rain
Aaron Neville Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In the sticky heat I feel you open up to me
Love comes out of no where, baby,
Oh, just like a hurricane
And it feels like rain
And it feels like rain
Lying underneath the stars right next to you
And how do you do, how do you do baby
Oh, the clouds roll in across the moon,
And the wind howls out your name
And it feels like rain
And it feels like rain
We never gonna make that bridge tonight, baby
Set across the Poncetrain
And it feels like rain
And it feels like rain
Batten down the hatches, baby
Leave your heart out on your sleeve
Looks like we're in for stormy,
Stormy, stormy weather
That ain't no cause to leave
Just like
Let it wash away the pain
And it feels like rain
And it feels like rain
Baby can you feel it, can you feel it
It feels like rain
Baby, can you feel it, can you feel it
Feels like rain
Let your love, let your love come down
Oh, down on me
The lyrics to Aaron Neville's "It Feels Like Rain" describe a sultry, stormy night in which the singer feels a deep emotional connection with their lover. The opening lines, "Down here the river meets the sea / In the sticky heat I feel you open up to me," set an atmospheric scene of passion and intensity. The reference to the river and sea may symbolize the merging of two bodies, while the sticky heat suggests a sense of longing and desperation.
As the song progresses, the singer contemplates their relationship and the mysterious persona lying next to them. The line "Love comes out of nowhere, baby, oh, just like a hurricane" suggests that their connection was sudden and overwhelming, much like the intensity of a hurricane. As the storm approaches, the mood becomes more urgent and desperate, with the singer pleading with their lover to stay despite the impending danger. The repeated chorus of "And it feels like rain" emphasizes the unrelenting force of nature and the powerful emotions that are present in the song.
Overall, "It Feels Like Rain" captures the sense of longing, desire, and emotional intensity that can be present in a romantic relationship. Through its vivid imagery and passionate lyrics, the song paints a picture of a stormy, unpredictable love affair that refuses to be tamed.
