Star Carol
Aaron Neville Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
High in the heavens, a star shone bright.
While in the manger, a wee baby lay.
Sweetly asleep, on a bed of hay.
Jesus our lord, was that baby so small.
Lay down to sleep, in a humble stall.
Then came the star, and it stood over head.
Dear baby Jesus, how tiny thou art.
I'll make a place, for thee in my heart.
And when the stars, in the heavens I see.
Ever and always, I'd think of thee...
The Star Carol by Aaron Neville is a heartfelt Christmas carol that talks about the birth of Jesus Christ. The opening lines of the song set the scene of a deep winter night, with a bright star shining high in the heavens. The imagery in the song is powerful, conveying a sense of peace and wonder that often comes with celebrating the birth of a new life. The song then shifts focus to the manger, where a baby lies asleep on a bed of hay. The song then goes on to describe how the star shines overhead, illuminating the baby’s peaceful face. The final verse of the song is a personal message to the baby Jesus, expressing devotion and awe. The lyrics say, “Dear baby Jesus, how tiny thou art. I'll make a place, for thee in my heart. And when the stars, in the heavens I see. Ever and always, I'd think of thee...” This last verse perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Christmas, which is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and recognizing the enduring impact of his life and teachings.
