In 2008 longtime grade school friends Andrew Hansen and Aaron Ruiz decided that they wanted to escape the financial time constraints of a recording studio to hone in their own “sound” and studio skills. With a few cheap microphones and an old PC,they self produced their album Pictures and Words in the basement of Andrew’s parents home in Connecticut. Despite its small budget sound, the album was a success and caught the ears of several television music supervisors landing dozens of placements on CBS, E, Oxygen, and MTV. The majority of the album showing up on shows like “Guiding Light” and “The Real World”.
In 2010 the duo had their music passed onto Grammy nominated producer Brent Milligan. (Ten Shekel Shirt, David Crowder Band, The Elms) Showing interest in developing their sound, Milligan invited them down to his Nashville studio to record their next album To Be Brave. The month long session was a recording boot camp for Aaron and Andrew.
“From recording guitars to learning about eq and a deeper comprehension of pro tools, the To Be Brave sessions taught us a lot about ourselves both as writers and growing producers...Brent was like a mad scientist in a lab and we were just trying to keep up with him.”
The finished product was met with great success. The album landed even more television licenses from networks like Bravo, MTV, and Showtime. Prominent placements during the Kim Kardashian wedding and “The Real World” overwhelmed their website and spiked album sales. They also had a hit single “I Found You” which has become their most downloaded song and a favorite among wedding videographers across the country. Their song “Heart” was also covered by former American Idol contestant Shuan Cannon in a youtube video currently sitting at 40K plays.
In the summer of 2012 the duo hit their home studio in Connecticut and began roughing out demos for their next project. Hoping to take another stab at the production end of making an album but still wanting another voice in the process, the guys were introduced to Chris Grainger (Wilco, Switchfoot, Kopecky Family Band, Five Knives) another talented producer from Nashville. Chris was more than happy to fill in where the pair felt they needed a third voice. Working both at their home studio in CT and with Chris in Nashville, Aaron and Andrew spent three months recording their latest release, Chase.
The six song EP will be released over a six month’ with one song being released monthly as a free download off the band’s Facebook page starting in February 2013.

Along about nine o'clock
His memory was history
Before she hit the parking lot
She busted through them swingin' doors
Sashaying to and fro
She's got a new attitude yes she's over that dude
And she wants the world to know that
(Oh yes) She feels like a brand new man tonight
She didn't come in here to hang her head and cry
She's through throwing good love away
On some boy that don't treat her right
She feels like a brand new man tonight
Just like a kid in a candy store
She's checking out the merchandise
But she wants to find the keeping kind
Who will keep her satisfied
And he's gotta be strong gotta be tough
And he's gotta have a tender touch
So if you fit the bill brother don't sit still
Come on step right up 'cause
(Oh yes) She feels like a brand new man tonight
She didn't come in here to hang her head and cry
She's through throwing good love away
On some boy that don't treat her right
She feels like a brand new man tonight
(Oh yes) She feels like a brand new man tonight
She didn't come in here to hang her head and cry
She's through throwing good love away
On some boy that don't treat her right
She feels like a brand new man tonight
I said she feels like a brand new man tonight
The song "Brand New" by Aaron and Andrew is a playful and upbeat commentary on a girl who has recently gotten over a bad break-up and is ready to start anew. The lyrics describe how the girl has finally realized that she deserves better than what she was previously getting from her ex-boyfriend. The last tear that she sheds falls at nine o'clock, which suggests that it is time for her to move on. As she walks out of the door, she does so with a newfound confidence and sashays to and fro, showing off her new attitude.
The chorus of the song emphasizes that the girl feels like a brand new man tonight, which is an interesting play on words. The songwriters use "man" instead of "woman" to signify that the girl is now in control and has taken on a more masculine role in the relationship. She is no longer acting like a subservient woman who will take whatever her partner dishes out. Instead, she is seeking someone who is strong yet has a tender touch. The girl is looking for someone who will keep her satisfied, both emotionally and physically.
Overall, "Brand New" is a fun and uplifting song that highlights the importance of self-confidence and finding someone who treats you right. The song reminds us that it's okay to leave a bad relationship and that there are always opportunities for new beginnings.
