We're every sound that breaks your sleep
Along the hallway walls we creep
Close enough to catch you
I know you salt your bedside
I know where you sleep and at what time
The quick and the uninvited kind
Close enogh to catch you
Just enough to fly you away
Just to float along
A ghost I wish to be
Just to float along
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
Just to float along
A ghost I wish to be
Just to float along
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
As we attempt to ascend the sky
As we attempt to ascend
As we attempt to ascend the sky
Flying by night and onto the heavens
As we attempt to ascend the sky
As we attempt to ascend
As we attempt to ascend the sky
Flying by night and onto
I'm just your favorite nightmare
I just killed all your dreams
Hovering by your bedside
I've been waiting
I'm just your favorite nightmare
I just took over your dreams
I just took over your whole life
I've been waiting
Just to float along
A ghost I wish to be
Just to float along
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
Just to float along
A ghost I wish to be
Just to float along
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
As we attempt to ascend the sky
As we attempt to ascend
As we attempt to ascend the sky
Flying by night and onto the heavens
As we attempt to ascend the sky
As we attempt to ascend
As we attempt to ascend the sky
Flying by night and onto
Just to float along
A ghost I wish to be
Just to float along
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
On the winds back I ride
The gust is strong and it's solid
As I glide through the night
through the clouds and the forests
I'm cast from the light
and thrown as shadows on the wall
My first name is silence
but through the darkness I call
Don't lie awake
Close your eyes
Calm your breathing
With the next breath you take
Take me in and take it easy
In your veins I will stay
As I flow through your chest
You know the first name
The last name's relentless
Come hell or high water
The song "Twilight" by Abbott Hayes is an eerie and haunting track that paints a picture of a supernatural being that is out to haunt its victim's dreams. The lyrics are filled with menacing and threatening tones that suggest the singer is close enough to catch the victim and take them away. The opening lines, "We're few and far between, we're every sound that breaks your sleep," imply that the singer is not alone in their pursuit of the victim, instead, they have a group.
The verse "I'm just your favorite nightmare, I just killed all your dreams" further confirms the singer's intention to terrorize the victim. The singer is portrayed as an entity that has taken over the victim's life and dreams. The chorus, "Just to float along, a ghost I wish to be, between the devil and the deep blue sea," provides an insight into the singer's fear of being caught while they haunt the victim's dream.
As the song progresses, the singer starts to assume a more supernatural form. The lines "On the wind's back, I ride, the gust is strong, and it's solid, as I glide through the night, through the clouds and the forests" depict the singer's effortless and ethereal movement through space. They are not bound by human limitations but instead can traverse the skies and terrains with ease, seeking their victim.
Overall, "Twilight" is a musical masterpiece that delves into the fear of the unknown and the supernatural. It is a beautifully crafted track that combines haunting lyrics, melody, and vocal harmonies to create a chilling composition.
