William (Bud) Abbott and Lou Costello (born Louis Francis Cristillo) were an American comedy duo whose work in radio, film and television made them the most popular comedy team during the 1940s.
Thanks to the endurance of their most popular and influential routine, "Who's on First?"— whose rapid-fire word play and comprehension confusion set the preponderant framework for most of their best-known routines—the team is, as a result, featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame. (Contrary to popular belief, however, the duo was not inducted into the Hall).
Bud Abbott was born in Asbury Park, NJ, October 2, 1895 and died April 24, 1974 in Woodland Hills, California.
Lou Costello was born in Paterson, NJ, March 6, 1906 and died March 3, 1959 in East Los Angeles, California.

Just like a million more all over the world
I know I shouldn't be raising my hopes so high, but
I have seen the hungry look in their eyes
They'd settle for anything in disguise of love
Seen the party girls look me over
Seen 'em leaving when the party's over
You say you don't mind
We're so hard to find
I could give you anything but time
Give it just one more try
Give it a chance
Starts like fascination
Ends up like a trance
Oh, you'll never be the guilty party girl
Maybe someday we can go hiding from this world
Maybe I'll never get over the change in style, but
I don't want to lock you up and say you're mine
Don't want to lose you or say goodbye
I'm the guilty party and I want my slice
But I know you've got me and I'm in a grip-like vise
They can't touch me now
You say you don't mind
We're so hard to find
I could give you anything
I would give you anything
I can give you anything but time
Guilty ones are best (time)
Guilty ones are best (time)
Guilty ones are best (time)
Guilty ones are best (time)
Ooh, guilty ones are best (time)
Guilty ones are best (time)
Guilty ones are best (time)
The Abbott and Costello song "Girls" is a tune about the insecurity and fear of one's lover being a "party girl," the kind who flirts around with everyone and has fun in the moment without any deeper level of commitment or responsibility. The singer is aware of the difficulty that comes with trying to hold on to someone who has this party girl reputation, and sees the "hungry look" in others' eyes when they look at her. However, he is also aware of his own culpability in this situation, referring to himself as the "guilty party" who wants his own slice. In the end, he notes how hard it is to find a partner who is worth committing to.
The song's lyrics are full of tension between desire and doubt, between hope and fear. The singer knows that the party girl stereotype is based on a reality, but he also can't help feeling drawn to her. There's a sense that he doesn't want to stay with her forever but also doesn't want to let her go. The song's title and repeated mention of "guilty ones" implies that there's something illicit or bad about wanting to be with this kind of girl.
