Hurricane
Abigail Breslin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Carry me away, in the eye of a hurricane
City sleeps below, and no one knows where I go
When I'm carried away, In the eye of a hurricane
I have no fear, there's a certain kind of, peace here.

Let me sleep it's, where I dream
And it all makes sense to me
What people run for cover,
But I, stand out, and shout, into the sky to

Carry me away, in the eye of a hurricane
City sleeps below, and no one knows where I go
When I'm carried away, in the eye of a hurricane
I have no fear, there's a certain kind of peace here.

You said you'd teach me, how to disappear
Bells ring out and you tried, couldn't find me here
So you kept on searching, showing the one who's lost
And I'm flying over, houses and farms and
I'm never coming down, I'm never coming down

Carry me away, in the eye of a hurricane
City sleeps below, and no one knows where I go
When I'm carried away, in the eye of a hurricane
I have no fear, there's a certain kind of peace here
(Would you carry me away)
I have no fear

(Would you carry me away)
(Would you carry me away)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Abigail Breslin's song "Hurricane" have a powerful message about finding a safe space amid chaos. The idea of being "carried away in the eye of the hurricane" highlights the idea of surrendering to the chaos, but also finding a peaceful place within it. The city sleeps below, and no one knows where Breslin goes- it's almost as though she is invisible to the world, just another part of the storm. This feeling of invisibility is a common feeling among people; when life is getting too loud, we want to retreat from the world and feel like we are the only ones in a safe space.

Breslin sings about sleeping in this space, where everything makes sense to her, even though it may not to others. She stands out and shouts into the sky, embracing the storm that others run from. The second verse is particularly poignant, with Breslin singing about someone trying to teach her how to disappear. Even though the person can't find her, she is flying above it all, never coming down. No matter what chaos may come, she will always have her safe space to retreat to. The chorus repeats the idea of being carried away in a hurricane, with Breslin having no fear and feeling a certain kind of peace in her hidden space.

Overall, the lyrics to "Hurricane" are a powerful reminder of the importance of having a safe space, even in the midst of chaos. It's a message of hope, of finding strength in darkness, and of always being able to rise above whatever the world throws at you.

The few hours after the hurricane were spectacular.  The skies felt more immense, the air was charged.  Everything seemed washed over and clean, despite the surrounding damage.  This song brings back that feeling.
