Abney Park began around 1997, but their popularity exploded with the onset of internet music, with much success through MP3.com in the early 2000’s. The band was a regular chart topper, often holding the number 1 – 5 positions in Goth and Darkwave, and Industrial Dance music charts. In 2005 the band morphed from a more Darkwave/Industrial inspired act to a Steampunk inspired act.
Abney Park's music has been featured on a number of movie soundtracks, including "Insomnis Amour", "Goth", and "Lord of the Vampires". The band's music has also been featured in many compilation CD’s, including Cleopatra Records “The Unquiet Grave” vol. III, "Annihilation and Seduction", "Eighteen" and many more.
Abney Park has performed all over the North America, appearing in Portland, Chicago, Las Vegas, Reno, Hollywood, and countless shows in their home base of Seattle. Their fans form a near-cult following, and have been known to travel from as far as New Zealand and Mexico City just to see them perform.

And I have barely stayed alive
While folks have fallen off this ship
Well, I have never lost my grip
So hate me
You might as well hate me
And go on, berate me
I'm going straight through
I'm not gonna hate you
But I won't wait for you
Until the day I die
Some folks will tell me I'm all wrong
He's all wrong
But I won't listen, well, not for long
No, not for long
My whole life I've planned this trip
He's planned this trip
And to my plan I'm gonna stick
He's gonna stick
So hate me
You might as well hate me
And go on, berate me
Until the day you die
But I'm going straight through
I'm not going to hate you
But I won't wait for you
Until the day I die
"Doctor Weird's mystery will be continued shortly. Say, by the way, doctor, is mystery your sole pleasure?"
"Young man, what could be more pleasant than mystery?"
"Well, music. I mean the kind of music men hum or whistle when they feel on top of the world!"
So hate me
You might as well hate me
And go on, berate me
Until the day you die
But I'm going straight through
I'm not gonna hate you
But I won't wait for you
Until the day I die
The Abney Park's song Until the Day You Die talks about pursuing one's dreams with an unwavering determination. The opening line "I've chased this dream since I was five" depicts the notion that one's dreams are to be followed throughout one's life, and it suggests a lifelong determination to pursue it. The lyrics compel the listener to be steadfast while treading the path to success, even if it means going it alone sometimes. The artist is telling us that no matter what we do, some people will not approve it. It’s elementary to get lost in the pursuit of something you believe in to the core, but it’s essential not to lose yourself in the process. The song encourages one to stick to one's plan and not be distracted by the naysayers, who may want to discourage you.
