North
Acadia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So long, I'm leaving

Yeah, im heading north for the winter next semester

Not sure if I'll be back too soon.

These suburban nights, still burning bright
And ringing in my ear.

Yeah, ill be fine, I'll be fine

But it's probably gonna take some time…

This is the end (this is not the end)

We're too young to give this up, (we've got too much)

I don't want to think of this as leaving you.

This is what its like to be erased.

I say so long ( I say so long)

To you my friend, but this is not the end

I promise to write if you promise to write, I promise.

And I promise to be brave if you promise to be brave, I promise.

I said enough (I've probably said too much)

I don't want to think of this as leaving you…

This is what its like to be erased.

And the fire burning inside of me is blue,

And it started when I was saying bye to you.

My god I wish it wasn't but its true

(my god I wish it wasn't but its true)

This is not the end (8x)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Acadia's song "North" express the feeling of leaving someone or something behind and starting a new phase in life. The singer is saying goodbye to a friend and heading north for the winter, but unsure if they will return anytime soon. They are trying to be positive and assure themselves that everything will be fine, but admit that it will probably take some time to adjust to the change. The suburban nights are still burning bright and ringing in their ears, creating a bittersweet memory of what they are leaving behind.

The lyrics also express the fear of being erased or forgotten, as the singer promises to write to their friend and be brave, hoping that their friendship will survive the distance. This fear is amplified by the image of a blue fire burning inside of them, representing the intensity of their emotions and the difficult decision to leave. The repetition of the line "this is not the end" reinforces the idea that even though things are changing, they still hold hope for a future reunion.

Great video highlighting Cadillac Mountain! We enjoy exploring national parks too, and this one is definitely on our list. Thanks for sharing your experience at Acadia with us! 👍

Thanks so much for your kind words. We loved Acadia so much, we are already talking about when we can go back. Would love to experience Cadillac at sunrise (when cloud cover allows it - lol).

Enjoy all your videos but it is especially fun when you are exploring a destination I have seen. It was at least 25 years ago but we found Acadia breathtaking. Also really enjoyed Jordan Pond House. Thanks for sharing.

We were wondering if others found the Jordan Pond House as pleasant as we did. Those popovers were sooo good. Our whole experience, including Cadillac Mountain and the Beehive Trail, was unforgettable! I’m so glad it brought back memories for you.
