Some who didn't have food to eat
Many people in Africa were starving when I sang to them.

In the depths of full-blown poverty
Many people in Africa were going through extreme poverty.

Most were living out in the street
Many people in Africa were homeless, living on the streets.

What a thrill to deliver the Gospel
It was a great honor to share the Gospel with the people of Africa.

To a people who were so distressed
The people of Africa were in great distress, and needed to hear the message of God's love.

Holding back the tears and the cultural fears
I had to hold back tears and overcome cultural barriers to share the message with the people of Africa.

Overwhelmingly I was impressed
I was very moved by the experience of sharing the message of God's love with the people of Africa.

The people of Africa praised God with gratitude.

The people of Africa continued to praise God.

And they praised God instead of me
The people of Africa thanked and praised God for sending me to share His message, not me personally.

I sang to the people in my hometown

Trying to guess their minds
I was trying to understand what was going through the minds of the people in my own community as I sang to them.

Most had already heard the precious Word
Many people in my hometown had already heard the message of God's love before.

Of a God who's good and kind
The message I sang about was of a loving and kind God.

As I sang I could tell that they knew it
I could tell that many people in my hometown already knew and understood the message I was singing about.

I didn't sing for the joy of the song
I did not sing for my own joy or pleasure.

But because of a Cross and a Savior's loss
I sang to share the message of the Cross and the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us.

To deliver mankind gone wrong
The message I sang was to deliver humanity from its sinful state.

The people in my hometown praised God with gratitude.

And they praised God in spite of me
