I'll Fly Away
Acappella Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some glad morning when this life is o'er
I'll fly away! (got to fly away)
To a home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away! (got to fly away)

Chorus:
I'll fly away (got to fly away), oh glory!
I'll fly away (got to fly away)
When I (when I), I die (I die), hallelujah by and by (oh hallelujah by and by)
I'll fly away! (got to fly away)

Just a few more weary days and then
Oh I'll fly away (got to fly away)
To a land where joy shall not end!
I'll fly away (got to fly away)

Repeat Chorus (x2)

I'll fly away!

Scriptural Reference:

"I said, 'Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest'" Psalm 55:6
"In My Father's house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you." John 14:2

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Acappella's song "I'll Fly Away" express the desire for liberation from the struggles of life in this world and the hope for a better home in heaven. The lyrics suggest that death is not to be feared, but rather a door to eternal paradise in God's celestial shore. The song speaks of the weariness of life and the anticipation of flying away to a place where joy shall not end. The repetition of the words "I'll fly away" in both the verses and the chorus emphasizes the eagerness of the singer to leave his earthly burdens behind.

The chorus of the song celebrates the hope of flying away to glory, which is a common theme in many gospel songs. The phrase "hallelujah by and by" reinforces the idea of looking forward to the time when faith will be vindicated and a joyous reunion with loved ones will take place. The lyrics of "I'll Fly Away" convey a sense of hope and optimism in the ultimate destination of the singer's soul.

The scriptural references to Psalm 55:6 and John 14:2 provide a context for the themes of the song. The Psalmist expressed a longing for escape from his troubles, while Jesus spoke of the many rooms that awaited his followers in heaven. The lyrics of "I'll Fly Away" take these biblical references and place them into the context of a song that celebrates the glory of flying away to paradise.

I wish church today would go back to the old time music like this instead of having rock and roll bands. Make church music great again

@renee6738

I would like to find churches/denominations in my area that sing A Cappella.  I go to a congregation that does but I want to find a Holy Spirit filled congregation with elders that lead spiritually and a cappella singing.  I am asking for a lot.  If you have resources to share, I would appreciate it.

@@renee6738 I visited one in Toronto called the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The sermons were excellent too. They sang the Psalms acapella.

Try and find your local church of Christ a lot of them are Acappella

@SageG453

Small churches singing this hymn with an out of tune piano in the background is the most satisfying thing I can hear.
