Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Accept Lyrics

About the deepest fear of mine
I'm haunted by this hurting spell
To see what I can never tell, it really hurts
Who am I, what can I say
I rather turn my eyes away
I hear my conscience speak out loud
You're way too proud
Don't let me down
I'm standing at the crossroads
Don't let me down
I'm standing at the crossroads
You gotta know, I can read your mind
And see that you're the kind
Who's hiding pain, hiding his life
Behind a wall, a wall of pride
The above lyrics are from the song Crossroads by Accept. The song talks about a person who is haunted by their deepest fear, which they are unable to voice aloud. The pain that this fear causes is immense, and the person ends up feeling hurt by their own silence. The lyrics suggest that this fear is related to the person's identity, and being unable to express it may be related to feelings of shame or guilt. The person is struggling with the question of who they are and what they stand for, and finds it easier to look away and avoid facing this question.
The person then hears their conscience speaking out loud, telling them that they are too proud to change. This implies that the fear they are struggling with may be related to their desire to maintain a certain image of themselves to the world. The chorus of the song then addresses the listener directly, asking them not to let the person down as they stand at the crossroads. The crossroads, in this context, symbolizes a turning point in the person's life where they must make a decision about who they are going to be going forward.
In summary, the lyrics of Crossroads by Accept are about a person struggling with their identity and a deep, unspoken fear that is causing them immense pain. They are being challenged to confront this fear, but find it difficult to do so because of their sense of pride and desire to maintain a certain image of themselves.
