Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Quite sure I wouldn't see no tomorrow
All the days I was wasting alone
Always waiting for the nights without sorrows
Mister, mister, you don't know what I am
Can't you hear it always trembling in my voice
Don't you know I'm doing all that I can
Everyday's only pain for me
I don't like the sunlight shining on my head
I'm the man that was born for the dark
Every light that shines is making me feel bad
Lady, lady, put your hand on my head
Can't you feel the grieving sorrows in my brain
'cause I'm the one who's behaving so bad
I need those feelings for you again
Man of the dark, the guardian of the night
Man of the dark, the guardian of the night
I don't like people working all day
Only working just to see next tomorrow
But they are happy while they're living that way
In that world I gotta beg, steel or borrow
Mister, mister, you don't know what I am
Can't you hear it always trembling in my voice
Don't you know I'm doing all that I can
But I'm a man without any choice
Man of the dark, the guardian of the night
Man of the dark, the guardian of the night
Of the night, of the dark
The lyrics to Accept's song "Guardian Of The Night" describe the internal struggles of a man who feels out of place in the world. He was born under a dark cloud and has always felt lonely and alienated, often waiting for nightfall to escape the pain of the day. He is aware that he is different and feels that no one understands him. Although he tries his best to fit in, he feels helpless and powerless to change his circumstances. The man of the night asks the lady to put her hand on his head and feel the grief and sorrow he feels in his brain. He is the guardian of the night, and it is in the darkness that he feels the most alive.
The song speaks to the themes of loneliness, depression, and isolation. It portrays the difficulties that come with feeling different and not fitting into societal norms. The lyrics are loaded with melancholic and dramatic expressions that make them relatable to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider. "Guardian Of The Night" is a call for compassion and understanding, a plea for those who feel different to be accepted and loved for who they are.

Saw Accept in. Feb 1984. They opened the doors to the Metal scene for me. The duel guitars sounded like a razor thru the amps. Adding Udo's vocals was pure metal at its best.

Little by little I fully picked up on this entire album. The overall talent of this band is unreachable. They had very creative song lyrics along with the perfect melody for each one. Mist, epoch, Fog, Night, dawn, words of topics Accept loves to play.
