Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The night rolls in
Lonely lovers come alive
Like a heartbeat
In a world of sin
Cruising around hungry eyes
Going nowhere
Fading dreams of the city
Penthouse beds
Sweet love affairs
Crimes of passion for the pretty
Man in blue on his beat
Unseen faces in the streets
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights, never change
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights
Red eye whiskey
And lady luck
Have always been good friends
Their love is pain
The same old stuff
Always alone in the end
Could they be me and you
Watching how the nights move
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights, never change
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights, never change
Neon nights, neon nights, endless flame
Neon nights, neon nights
Neon nights
The first verse of "Neon Nights" paints a picture of the transition from day to night, and how the latter is when "lonely lovers come alive." This can be interpreted as a metaphor for how people's true desires and passions emerge when they're away from the constraints of everyday life. The mention of "crimes of passion for the pretty" suggests that some of these desires may be illicit or even dangerous. The second verse shifts the focus to the city itself, with its penthouse beds and sweet love affairs, again hinting at a sense of decadence and excess.
The chorus of "Neon Nights" emphasizes the alluring, almost addictive quality of the night, which is compared to an "endless flame." The repetition of the phrase "neon nights" drives home the idea that this is a song about the seductive power of the city after dark. The third verse brings the personal back to the forefront, asking whether the singer and their audience could be the ones caught up in this world of neon lights and lost dreams. The final lines of the song simply repeat the chorus, as if to suggest that the cycle of the night will continue on indefinitely.
