Black and White
Acceptance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another day in my life, another day,
I'm insecure, how I'm portrayed in this world.
Maybe it's my skin, I know that it's not my mind,
That's brought on this social attack.
And now I know, what you see isn't what's inside of me.
And now I know what you think isn't based upon my mind.
So analyze our hate, find out where it is based, maybe you will see it's not me.
The world has spit you out and you don't have a reason why.
See we're not that different after all.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Acceptance's song Black and White talk about the struggles of being judged based on one's appearance rather than their personality or character. The singer begins by stating how he feels insecure and uncertain about how he's portrayed to the world. He acknowledges that maybe it's because of his skin but he knows that it's not a reflection of his mind or true self. The song then takes a turn as the singer reflects on how others perceive him and come to conclusions about him. He urges them to analyze their hate and try to find out where it's based, maybe then they'll see that it's not him that's the problem.

The lyrics of Black and White speak to the broader issue of prejudice and discrimination. The singer's struggle is a common one that so many people face. The constant pressure to conform to societal standards can be overwhelming and lead to self-doubt. The song encourages listeners to look beyond the surface and see each other as humans with shared experiences and commonalities. It's a message of hope and unity in a world that can be divided by prejudice.
