Acceptance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell myself, on the ride home
Getting tired, hating all I've known
Holding on, like it's all I have
Count me out, when it's clear that I, find it hard to say
And you, find it hard to care

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me

Got this way, upfront but never true
God I'm wrong, it's just the way I am
Crashing down, any chance you hear
Caving in, any chance that you, could see inside of me
And I don't know what to say, it's fine
This isn't Hollywood
So fine, getting in your way

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me

I'm taking a chance, this could be different
This could be all I'm waiting for
Taking a chance, this could be different
This could be all I'm waiting for

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Acceptance's "Different" explore the theme of feeling inadequate and wanting to change, but struggling to do so. The opening lines describe the singer's journey home, feeling exhausted and discontented with their life. They are holding on to what they have, despite feeling disconnected and uncertain. The lines "Find it hard to say, and you, find it hard to care" suggest that the singer is struggling to express their feelings, and the other person is not giving them the attention or support they need.

The chorus, where the line "I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me" is repeated, is about the singer's desire for change. They want to be different, to become someone they think the other person will approve of. The repetition of "anything different, everything you would change in me" highlights their insecurities and need for validation.

The bridge of the song builds up to an expression of hope, with the singer taking a chance that "this could be different" and "all I'm waiting for." The song ends on a note of uncertainty, with the singer still wanting change but unsure if they can achieve it.

Overall, the lyrics of "Different" are about the desire for change and the struggle to achieve it, especially when faced with self-doubt and a lack of support from others.
