Thomas Ac… Read Full Bio ↴Acda en De Munnik is a successful band in The Netherlands.
Thomas Acda and Paul de Munnik met at the Amsterdam Academy of Cabaret, where they decided to work together to make a theatre show. They arranged their first show after Thomas convinced a producer of their talents. The producer initially didn’t want to listen to any of their work, but Thomas was persistent. Eventually the producer asked Thomas about his strongest line of text. Thomas said, “Als je bij me weggaat, mag ik dan met je mee” (If you leave me, can I come with you), which convinced the producer.
[edit: he convinced Huub van der Lubbe (front man of De Dijk) to give him lessons in lyric writing, as far as I know not his producer. They convinced their producer by playing at his office in stead of handing over a demo]
The audience of their first theatre shows appreciated the songs they wrote specially for the shows. These shows were released in 2002 on the 3-CD box “Trilogie”. The three shows are “Zwerf’on” (Wander On, 1996), “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans - John Lennon” and “It’s only cabaret but I like it”.
The theatre shows have comedy elements, but they contain serious stories as well.
Themes of Acda en De Munnik’s music and theatre work are love, broken-heartedness, enjoying life and fulfulling youth dreams.
In the summer of 1998, they had their breakthrough-hit with ‘Niet Of Nooit Geweest’. Several succesful albums followed, whilst still making shows and even a “Rock Opera”, ‘Ren Lenny Ren’ which was accompanied by the album ‘Liedjes van Lenny’.
On the 23th of November 2007 Acda en De Munnik released their new album “Nachtmuziek”. At the release of this album they stated they sought to go back to their musical “roots”: making music as they started back in 1998, without a big orchestra, mainly using drums, guitar, piano and vocals only. As for the beginning of 2008, it seems like Nachtmuziek can’t approach the great succes of the first four studio albums.
In 2014 they announced their split live on Dutch TV.
In later years, they worked together with some collaborations. In 2023 they released a new album and played 6 sold out reunion shows in the Ziggo Dome.
Slaap Zacht Elisabeth

Slaap zacht, Elisabeth
Slaap zacht
Elisabeth, slaap zacht
In the first stanza of "Slaap zacht Elisabeth" by Dutch duo Acda en de Munnik, the singer describes waking up in the afternoon to find that Elisabeth is no longer present. The singer moves around the house with his eyes closed because he does not want to face the reality of Elisabeth's absence. He reveals that he wishes Elisabeth was still with him but understands that she may be gone forever. However, he hopes that one day he will be reunited with her, wherever she may be, and that she will remember him.
The second stanza paints a picture of the singer struggling to come to terms with Elisabeth's absence. He admits that he is not a hero but rather someone who is just trying to live life as best he can. He acknowledges that he can barely manage to walk a fine line and that it is difficult to know why Elisabeth left and why he is still here. The singer goes to the front door and looks out onto the street, hoping to see the golden middle road, which symbolizes stability and balance. The singer then tells Elisabeth to rest in peace, indicating that he has come to terms with her passing.
Overall, "Slaap zacht Elisabeth" is a poignant song about coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. Its emotional lyrics and introspective tone make it a powerful reminder of the pain and sadness that come with death.

Werd wakker in de namiddag
I woke up in the afternoon
En Elisabeth was er niet
And Elisabeth wasn't there
I walked through the house with my eyes closed
Want echt zien wil ik het niet
Because I don't really want to see it
I really wish you were here
Maar waar je dan ook bent
But wherever you are
I hope I can come there too, someday
En dat je mij nog kent
And that you still know me
Slaap zacht, Elisabeth
Sleep well, Elisabeth
Niet iedereen kan een held zijn
Not everyone can be a hero
Er moeten ook mensen gered
There have to be people saved
The trick is to dance the golden mean
En dat red ik nog maar net
And I can only just manage that
Niemand die vertellen kan
No one can tell
Waarom en waarom jij
Why and why you
En ik want ik ben er nog
And me, because I'm still here
Ik sleep me naar de voordeur
I drag myself to the front door
And then I look if the middle way is clear
En ik zeg
And I say
Slaap zacht, Elisabeth
Sleep well, Elisabeth
Soms zie ik je in de kleedkamer
Sometimes I see you in the dressing room
Vlak voor het eerste lied
Just before the first song
Sometimes I suddenly see you among the people
Maar als ik later bij d'are weg ga was je 't niet
But when I leave later, you're not there
I know you'll never come again
But I hold on to what it was
Vannacht droom ik ons weer als koningin
Tonight I dream of us as a queen
En koning van ons tweedehands matras
And king of our secondhand mattress
En ik zeg
And I say
Slaap zacht, Elisabeth
Sleep well, Elisabeth
Slaap zacht
Sleep well
Elisabeth, slaap zacht
Elisabeth, sleep well

Zo'n prachtig, ontzettend mooi, lied!

What a great guy! We have met a long time ago while we both played an online game (ogame) his nickname was LAMA...I still remember...he sent me this song when I asked him what is he doing. So happy he is still doing so good!!! Cheers from Greece Thomas!!!
