PFFFFFF! Yeah right! What are you? The King of Knots? You think you're the freaking King of Tying Knots??
Florida’s heat has been radiating over hip-hop for many years. From the legendary “Uncle” Luke Campbell, Trick Daddy and Trina to DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, T-Pain, Rick Ross and Plies, the sunshine state has always produced hot music. The next artist to emerge from this sizzling climate is Ace Hood, and with an ace on the top of the deck, he is guaranteed to continue Florida’s heat wave.
“I got the name Ace as a child. My family always thought that I would be the one who would succeed in whatever I did,” he explains. “I feel like I’m an army in myself. I carry my own weight and since I represent for the hood, why not attach that to my name?”
Born Antoine McColister in Broward County, Florida, Ace knew he was destined for greatness. After an injury derailed his burgeoning football career, Ace turned to his true passion, rapping. At the age of 17, Ace teamed up with the Broward-County-based entertainment label, Dollaz & Dealz, to record the hit "M.O.E." ("Money Over Everything") which sparked an immediate buzz in South Florida. Ace began to perform and network which helped him gain exposure like never before. After fine-tuning his craft on local crowds, he set his sights on performing for DJ Khaled at his annual birthday bash.
“We was outside the radio station not even trying to get a deal, just hoping to perform at his birthday bash,” he recalls. “We just figured we’d try and perform. He had a contest going on where you had to give a certain amount of reasons why you should perform at the birthday bash. So I was going to rap for him on camera and show him why I was worthy. Although he had to go to a meeting, he came out, looked at me and said I love his image. We handed him a CD and once we did that he listened to it and called my manager that night. He said I love his swag, I hear starvation in his music and I want to take a meeting with him.”
That meeting turned into Ace becoming the first artist signed to DJ Khaled’s label “We the Best” distributed by Def Jam Records. His hot new single “Cash Flow” featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross is currently blazing the radio waves everywhere. “Once I played the song for Rick Ross he loved it and he put his whole swag to it” explains Khaled. “The song was pretty much done but we felt to make it more of a hit record, get somebody like T-Pain who’s running the game right now, on the hook to make it go that much further.” The song is setting the stage for Ace’s debut album, Gutta, with guest appearances from some of rap’s elite including Trick Daddy, Flo Rida, Akon, Plies and production from Cool & Dre, The Runners, Danjahandz and J.U.S.T.C.E. League, Ace’s deck is definitely stacked.
“This album is definitely gonna be a classic,” Ace says confidently. “People are expecting a lot out of me not only because I’m on Khaled’s label, but because everyone knows that the ace is ranked as the highest.”
With an ace up your sleeve, how can you go wrong?

Ace Hood Lyrics

Let's make a toast (toast), to the young don,
And to the gangstas until they post pone,
To all the hustlas that's on the cash grind,
To those we lost to war lookin' for a lifetime,
I do it for the G's, I do it for the streets, this one for history,
I'm toastin' this to me, glasses in the air (it's a celebration baby),
True story I was born into the Lord's glory,
Hustlin' of their visions, to first class ported,
And that's accordin' and I was corgile on my first formal,
Tryin' make a mill' comin' off a four quarters, I am so Florida,
Marlin in my own water, swimin' with' the sharks slaughter anything by them,
Feelin' like an orphan never knew my real father,
Guess that's why I'm goin' harder than my role model,
Signed to the biggest label that enable Cartier,
Now they payin' Hood at that to my armor model,
And every Ace of Spades bottle to the last swallow,
Only taint forever trained to get the last dollar,
Black flag scholar, Louis Vuitton don, a hundred for the watch,
Just waitin' for the right time, I just realized in my money state of mind,
I'm on another level devils meet me in the sky.
Let's make a toast (toast), to the young don,
And to the gangstas until they post pone,
To all the hustlas that's on the cash grind,
To those we lost to war lookin' for a lifetime, I do it for the G's,
I do it for the streets, this one for history,
I'm toastin' this to me, glasses in the air (it's a celebration people),
Glasses in the air, and this for history.
I used to wake up in the mornin' yawin' where I wanna be,
People that I wanna meet, and places I've been diein' to see,
No hope in sellin' coke or dope I'm goin' back to sleep,
Now lie awake with paper bags cash under feet,
Throw up the W to represent my dynasty,
And all honesty the prodigy see no defeat,
Keep all apologies the modesty is all to me,
It's ruthless mind frame is the way to be,
I burn a hater blow the ashes on his daddy feet,
May he be deceased lookin' 'til you see the peace,
Well I could see you gettin' rich 'cause niggas envy me,
It's deeper than a rap the realest shit a nigga speak,
Private planes take me everywhere they wish to see,
And Khaled takin' me to heights they only wish to be,
Flyest without a wing, the American dream,
It's a bird, it's a plane, naw it's just me.
Let's make a toast (toast), to the young don,

To all the hustlas that's on the cash grind,

The lyrics of Ace Hood's song 'Make A Toast' exude an overwhelming sense of celebration and triumphant feeling. He starts by saying "This is no longer music, it's a celebration homie," implying that this song isn't just a piece of music, it's a cause of celebration for all the success he has achieved in the music industry. He then goes on to make a toast for himself, the young don, and to all the hustlers on the cash grind, alluding to the people who struggle and work hard to create a better life for themselves. The mention of the lost ones, 'those we lost to war looking for a lifetime,' further adds to the emotion of the song, highlighting the sacrifices people make in the pursuit of their goals.
In the second verse, Ace Hood narrates his story of how he made it on his own, depicting his modest beginnings and how he worked his way to the top by being ruthless in his mindset. He talks about how he grew up without a father and hence, he had no one to idolize and learn from. However, that only made him more determined to succeed and be better than anyone else. He mentions how he is signed to the biggest label, which enabled his Cartier lifestyle, how he burns haters and blows the ashes on their father's feet and how he lives life on his own terms. The overarching sentiment is a celebration of his success, hard work, and determination.
Overall, 'Make A Toast' is a song that invites everyone to cheer and raise a glass in honor of their achievements, celebrating the hard work, and sacrifices that led them where they are today.
