Louise
Acetone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And please say that you will stay
A while
I know things could go wrong
But what's the use if you don't try.
Louise
Oh please,
Just go on and take a look and then
Just close your eyes
Just close your eyes
Just close your eyes and see(sleep)¡
The lyrics to Acetone's song "Louise" are a plea to someone named Louise to stay and take a chance. The singer is imploring her not to turn her eyes away and to say that she will stay for a while. It is clear that the singer feels that they have something special, and they want Louise to take a chance on them. They acknowledge that things could go wrong, but they feel it is worth trying. The chorus urges Louise to take a look and then to close her eyes and see. It seems that the singer feels that Louise may have been hurt before and is hesitant to take a chance on them. The song is a heartfelt plea for her to open up and give them a chance at a relationship.

Rest in peace Richie Lee, the few of us fortunate enough to know about Acetone will remember your unique sound. Each note flows slow and sweet like honey.

In a LA Press Telegram Hope Sandoval interview from Aug. 2002, I discovered this bit of trivia re. Hope's 2002 tour where she performed "Louise" regularly. Acetone's guitarist Mark Lightcap was a member of Hope's Warm Inventions touring band for her 2002 tour. He co-wrote the song "Louise" with Acetone band mate Richie Lee. Lee committed suicide in L.A. in 2001 at age 34. I've now upped to YT 2 versions of Hope singing Louise, from Paris & Hamburg. Hope's choice of covers is always excellent!

Acetone originally toured with Mazzy Star in the U.S. in 1994, when they were supporting the CINDY album. The March '94 show in Chicago was at the Metro, and the band was probably playing LOUISE every night. So, Hope heard this many times before she decided to cover it.
