Kiss of Misfortune
Acoustic Junction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You gradually grew upon me
the flickering light of the faded moon
how quickly you leapt from me
my hands did not know
hands did not know this tune.

Your smile now was the sacred truth
in your kiss was misfortune
the lethargic cry for the holiness
in the depths of your layered heart.

Damn your soul to cleanse the sea
it is time for you to act upon me
I am scared to reveal your beauty
for will you not us it to be free.

Have I not met you before
signs of illusions fooling you

to think of secrets untold
through those mysterious eyes.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Kiss of Misfortune by Acoustic Junction convey a range of emotions: from intrigue towards someone who gradually grows more important in the singer's life, to a realization that the person in question may be dangerous to the singer's wellbeing. The singer describes how they initially saw this person as insignificant - represented by the "flickering light of the faded moon" - but then gradually became more attached to them. However, despite developing strong feelings, the singer is unable to understand the person's motives or intentions ("my hands did not know this tune").

The chorus of the song, "in your kiss was misfortune," suggests that the person's touch - perhaps a kiss - led to unforeseen consequences. The lyrics describe a "lethargic cry for the holiness," which could be interpreted as a desire for purity or goodness that is not being fulfilled. The singer acknowledges that the person is complex, with a "layered heart," but also expresses fear for their own safety ("I am scared to reveal your beauty") while also questioning whether the other person is truly who they say they are ("have I not met you before").

Overall, the song seems to be about the confusion and uncertainty that can come with developing feelings for someone new. The singer is conflicted between their desire to pursue a relationship with this person and their fear of being hurt or manipulated. The imagery used throughout the song - the faded moon, the mysterious eyes - adds to the sense of mystery and intrigue that the singer is experiencing.

on Do What You Do

I was just hiking in a forest with a friend when she said that somebody started to build a house nearby. We went to explore. The first thing I noticed was a tree growing in the middle of where the floor should have been. It triggered a memory of a song I knew when I was a kid, that I probably learned when I was at a long-ago campfire with somebody playing the guitar. It took me a while, but gradually the words to Uncle Jed's shed came to me. I sang it for my friend, and we both totally enjoyed the moment. So, thank you, for this delightful, quirky song
