The Wind
Acoustic Junction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walking in a cool rain all by myself
A little voice inside of me calls out for help
And says "Listen as the wind calls you home"

Two more hours in the raging storm
I head for shelter, any place that's warm
I rest my bones and go to bed
Dream of what my little voice had said
Listen as the wind calls me home.

Wake up and I'm covered in rain
Dry my clothes and I'm off again
Go by the store get a bottle of wine
Drink my share and I take my time
Cause I got nowhere to go
Listen as the wind calls far into night fall
Nowhere to go I lay down my head and call it home.

Sunny day in Wichita, hop a train in an open car
A hundred miles to the end of the line
Sing a song and I finish my wine

Cause I got anywhere I want to go
As long as I'm happy and at one with my soul.

Overall Meaning

In Acoustic Junction's song "The Wind", the lyrics evoke a sense of solitude and wandering, as the singer ventures out alone in the rain, seeking shelter, dreaming and listening to the wind's beckoning call. The opening lines describe the singer's loneliness and the yearning for help, as a little voice in his head urges him to pay attention to the wind, which seems to be calling him home. The idea of a voice in one's head might suggest an intuition, a sense of guidance or inner voice, or perhaps a spiritual connection to nature.

The second stanza portrays the struggle against the storm and the search for a refuge, highlighting the vulnerability and transience of human life. The lyrics offer a contrast between the harsh and unpredictable environment, and the inner voice which offers comfort and hope. The metaphor of the wind as a guiding force speaks of the cyclical nature of life, the impermanence of human struggles, and the power of nature to evoke wonder and awe.

In the third verse, the singer wakes up still covered in rain, yet determined to continue his journey, seemingly with no clear destination in mind. He stops by a store, buys a bottle of wine, and takes his time, reflecting on his wanderlust and the sense of freedom it affords him. The repetition of the phrase "nowhere to go" might suggest a sense of aimlessness, or alternatively, a willingness to embrace the unknown and find a sense of home within oneself. The final line, "as long as I'm happy and at one with my soul", carries a message of self-discovery, acceptance, and contentment in the present moment.

Overall, the lyrics of "The Wind" offer a poetic meditation on the human experience of isolation, longing, and the search for meaning. The image of the wind as a voice of wisdom and guidance, as well as a force of nature to be reckoned with, reflects the complexity and beauty of life itself.

on Do What You Do

I was just hiking in a forest with a friend when she said that somebody started to build a house nearby. We went to explore. The first thing I noticed was a tree growing in the middle of where the floor should have been. It triggered a memory of a song I knew when I was a kid, that I probably learned when I was at a long-ago campfire with somebody playing the guitar. It took me a while, but gradually the words to Uncle Jed's shed came to me. I sang it for my friend, and we both totally enjoyed the moment. So, thank you, for this delightful, quirky song
