Across the Sun Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Created by selfishness inhabiting us all
Begin to consume my foundation
Slowly muting pieces of me
Until there is nothing left
An overwhelming sense of empty
Leaving behind only fractions of a man
Within the fire beneath his chest
Now stricken with stasis
I'm reaching out to change
The face of the norm
Must find the strength
To weather the storm
Evolving human interaction
There is no room to conform
Slipping into this oubliette
The desire to suspend time
All movement takes over
A wish for silence to fall upon the earth
Contort depths of reality
Erase myself from existence
Until the sun shines
On my reformation
Lucid dreams the catalyst
To live as other people
Delve into the human psyche
Gain intimate knowledge
Awaken the masses
In "Descent & Discovery," Across The Sun explores the theme of self-discovery and the struggle that often accompanies it. The lyrics describe a moment when the negative aspects of human nature begin to consume the singer, causing them to feel empty and incomplete. The line "created by selfishness inhabiting us all" implies that this struggle is universal and affects everyone to some degree. As the negative thoughts and emotions slowly erode the singer's sense of self, they become overwhelmed by an "overwhelming sense of empty."
The second verse further develops the idea of the singer feeling incomplete and searching for meaning. They talk about "reaching out to change the face of the norm" and evolving beyond the limitations of conforming to societal expectations. The line "slipping into this oubliette" suggests that the singer feels trapped or forgotten and wishes to escape. They describe a desire to "erase myself from existence" and "contort depths of reality" in order to gain a better understanding of themselves and others. The final lines hint at the power of introspection and personal growth, suggesting that through self-discovery, the singer can not only awaken themselves but also inspire others to do the same.
