Helter Skelter
Across the Universe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and turn
And I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Do you don't you want me to love you
I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you
And you may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
Go helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Yeah, hu, hu
I will you won't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
Look out
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Yeah, hu, hu
Look out cause here she comes
When I get to the bottom
I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and turn
And I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Well will you won't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
Look out
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Yeah, hu,
Helter Skelter
She's coming down fast
Yes she is
Yes she is
Coming down fast
The lyrics to the song Helter Skelter by The Beatles can be seen as a description of a chaotic and intense experience. The first verse talks about going up and down a slide, creating a sense of momentum and repetition. Then, the lyrics shift to a call-and-response dynamic between the singer and another person, with the singer asking if they want to be loved and if they have the answer. The chorus features the repeated phrase "helter skelter," which can be taken to mean a spiraling descent into chaos.
In the second verse, the singer again asks if the other person wants to be made or broken, before again asking for the answer. The bridge features a warning to "look out" because someone is coming down fast. This could be interpreted as a warning to the listener to brace themselves for an intense and potentially dangerous experience. Finally, the song ends with a repeated refrain that someone is indeed coming down fast.

The way it transitions from the peaceful across the universe to the chaotic Helter skelter as soon as Jude gets to the strike and sees Lucy being taken by the police is a great use of the soundtrack

I actually love this scene. Across the Universe was an amazing, creative movie. I honestly can't see why people hate on it so much. It's not supposed to sound like the beatles. DUH.

Let me break it down for you. If someone repainted the Mona Lisa, that would be nothing special. Like cover bands or movie remakes. But if someone took an image of the Mona Lisa and placed her in a modern setting and, idk, distorted her a bit or painted her in vibrant colors.... THAT is what this movie does. It's not supposed to replicate or even improve the Beatles' music. It's just taking some great tunes and adding it to visual art. It's just one interpretation of the music. So let it be <3

To be honest i prefer this version of helter skelter. This Janis Joplin type singer is awesome.

Or to put it more simply, when Paul McCartney was asked what he didn't like about the movie his response was, "What's not to like?"

Across the universe intersecting with the breaks in the vocals of Helter Skelter is a trippy effect

I honestly think that these are some of the best, if not the only covers of The Beatles songs worth listening to, other than the originals obviously! This movie has an amazing story and they did the songs justice...! My favorite movie of all time! The Beatles are amazing (because true artists are never a "were") and I have much respect for them and this movie!

love this movie! nothing is wrong with their versions of the songs, it's unique and fits the whole vibe of the movie. i love the beatles too, but with some of their songs i feel like Across the Universe did a better job making the music fit with the lyrics.
