A Dream Within a Dream
Action Action Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've said it all today, all I have to say
Meaningless words and clichéd yesterdays
In my head again, I've said it better then,
No need to argue, no need to fret
Thought about the words I said, not the ones I meant

I've been dreaming of dreaming
About a stranger stuck in my skin
I've been living in secrets
Consumed, I don't want to make believe
I've been dreaming of you
I've seen in a dream within a dream
I cant believe
Until the choice is you vs. them
I wont wake up

Save myself from grace, same as yesterday
No one to save you and no need to care
This voice inside my mind, narrates, expands in time
Strive to become the dead, reveal the life later
Tell me all is real in this worm tapped

I've been dreaming of dreaming
About a stranger stuck in my skin
Ive been living in secrets
Consumed, I don't want to make believe
I've been dreaming of you
I've seen in a dream within a dream
I cant believe
Until the choice is you vs. them;
I wont wake up to

My entire life, a giant lie, time to stretch out

I've been dreaming of dreaming
About a stranger stuck in my skin
I've been living in secrets
Consumed, I don't want to make believe
I've been dreaming of you
I've seen in a dream within a dream
I cant believe
Until the choice is you vs. them

I'm in a dream within a dream
I'm in a dream within a dream

I'm in a dream within a dream
I'm in a dream and I wont wake up

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Action Action's song A Dream Within A Dream, at face value, seem to be scattered and disconnected feelings and thoughts put together. However, upon closer inspection, the song seems to be about feeling lost in oneself, consumed by secrets and lies, and struggling to differentiate between reality and dreams. The opening lines "I've said it all today, all I have to say, Meaningless words and clichéd yesterdays" suggests a sense of frustration and hopelessness that the singer feels upon trying to convey his thoughts and feelings. Perhaps the singer is tired of feeling ignored or misunderstood, leading him to believe that his words are meaningless.

The following lines "In my head again, I've said it better then, No need to argue, no need to fret" suggests that the singer may be introspective and thoughtful. He seems to feel that his thoughts are best kept to himself as he has discovered that arguing or fretting will not lead to an understanding.

The chorus "I've been dreaming of dreaming, About a stranger stuck in my skin, I've been living in secrets, Consumed, I don't want to make believe, I've been dreaming of you, I've seen in a dream within a dream, I can't believe, Until the choice is you vs. them, I won't wake up" suggests a sense of disillusionment with reality. The singer feels like he has become a stranger to himself, lost in secrets and unable to escape from a dreamlike state. He seems to suggest that he cannot believe the choices he has made, but he is unable to wake up from this state until he faces a pivotal decision.

The final lines "My entire life, a giant lie, time to stretch out, I'm in a dream within a dream, I'm in a dream and I won't wake up" suggest that the singer has come to realize that his entire life has been a lie, and now is the time to stretch out and finally face reality. However, he is still stuck in a dream within a dream and is unable to wake up.
