Combining gut-busting humor, complex lyrical food references, and a vast understanding of street culture, Action Bronson carved out his own lane last year with undeniable mic skills and gregariously offbeat charisma. After self-releasing acclaimed debut "Dr. Lecter" and a well-received collaborative album with producer Statik Selectah ("Well-Done," on DCide), Bronson's latest effort, "Blue Chips," finds the Queens native teaming with Fool's Good Records producer Party Supplies and sneaker brand Reebok for an off-the-cuff free mixtape.
Much like Bronson's endless punch lines, "Blue Chips," out today (March 12) on Complex.com, took shape in an easygoing studio atmosphere. "The original thing I wanted to call it was '5 Minute Beats and 1 Take Raps' [because] that's pretty much all it really was," Bronson reveals. "It was all on the fly shit," agrees Party Supplies. "It wasn't thought out."
Most of "Blue Chips" was made in Party Supplies' home studio in Brooklyn over YouTube sample digging, grub from local chicken joint Pies 'n' Thighs, and obligatory smoke sessions.
Action Bronson + Party Supplies, "Blue Chips"
"I jumped on YouTube, found some weird obscure sample -- basically started looping it on the drum machine and [Bronson] wrote some shit," Party Supplies says of the recording. "It's digging in the crates," Bronson adds. " is digging nonetheless. It's still hard to find [the gems]."
The spontaneous environment spurred some choice moments of carefree collaboration. "Party Supplies helped me out on a rhyme, on the song 'Blue Chips,'" laughs Bronson. "He actually was saying things to me and I was turning them into rap."
That open-minded attitude attracted Reebok, leading it to fund the project and sponsor the release. "They're very progressive. They're both two different people, both very creative," says Reebok head of entertainment for global Matt Pantoja, a hip-hop fan and friend of managers Dante Ross (Bronson) and Peter Oasis (Party Supplies). "Everybody's talking about bringing New York back and all these things, and I felt like this was something that was going to create that kind of energy and get people psyched on the project."
For both artists, the Reebok deal was a chance to pair with one of their favorite brands. "Reebok introduced the idea to us, we were into it, and we love Reebok. [They're] such a classic company," Party Supplies says. "I grew up wearing them shits," affirms Bronson. "I wear the Kamakazi and I still have a lot of old school Reeboks today: the Pumps, the Michael Chang's, the Shaq's."

Hopping out the 87 Benz
No pendent
Plus I’ve always been defendant
Never Plaintiff
Shorty crying at arraignment
This Jamie Lee Blue Steel what I'm aimin'
Queens to the death
Walk in the kitchen? Meet and greets with the chef
I’m like a baby cause I sleep on the breast
But still fuck around throw the heat to your chest
Million dollar raps, million dollar beats
Five dollar dimes
Young Harvard minds
Yale in the spring
Bali in the summer
See me through the window like Batali in the Hummer
Sharp at the feet
Morimoto knife set
Young Cordell coming through the portal
Terry Gene Boli motherfuckers are immortal
You in the corner looking floral
The New Yorker
Heavy body smooth talker
Stand in the foyer
Portraits of my yiddish lawyer
British walker
Presence like I’m Connery
You wanna die well swing
Knees like Olden Polynice
My shorty Polynesian don’t make no apologies
I’m when I’m rich I’ll probably join the Scientology
Three hookers
Street gynecology
Edward Scissors my existence is anomoly
Smoke the chronic, chronically
Bronson Chronicles
You ain’t really fucking with me honestly
Sonically we fuckin' boom shit
Just be smooth kid or catch a fucking raping with the broom stick
"Double Breasted" is a rap song by American rapper Action Bronson. The lyrics are an expression of his confidence and success in the music industry. In the first stanza, Bronson boasts about his legal record, stating that he has never been a plaintiff in a lawsuit but a defendant. He also references his car, a 1987 Benz, and implies that he doesn't need flashy jewelry to impress people. He then talks about his skills as a rapper, comparing himself to Jamie Lee Curtis in her role in the movie "Blue Steel" and stating that he aims to be as lethal with his rhymes as she was with her gun.
The next stanza continues to highlight Bronson's luxurious and successful lifestyle, mentioning his hometown in Queens, New York, his encounters with famous chefs, and his expensive taste in knives. He also references Harvard and Yale, implying that he is just as intelligent as graduates from those esteemed institutions despite not attending them. Bronson ends the stanza by saying that he is immortal, and that his enemies are nothing but flowers in the corner.
In the final stanza, Bronson talks about his physical prowess, referencing his strong knees and his Polynesian girlfriend. He expresses his willingness to join Scientology if he ever gets rich enough and boasts about his ability to attract women. The song ends with Bronson warning his listeners to stay smooth, or else they could meet his wrath.

Pain within running deeper than the ocean floor
Ocean avenue, the family straight from Kosovo
That was years ago mum look how your son has bloomed
I hum a tune and then I'm hotter than the sun in June
And I'm just living my life but feel I'm drifting
Demons on the doorstep, lungs that feel constricted
Or maybe I should see a shrink and get prescripted ...
WOW that's pure gold

Every time I listen to this in my car and that last verse hits at 3:29 I have to roll down the windows and max out my system just so random people get a chance to hear this once in their life. I consider it community service.
