Although the glory days of the Industrial music scene in Chicago had faded by this point, through constant touring and sheer hard work on a number of different projects the duo have since established themselves as favorites in the US underground scene.
In 1997, the band were forced to change their name due to a legal dispute with a Bluegrass band also called Acumen. Duffy and Novak split their project into two halves - the drum and bass influenced DJ? Acucrack, and the more traditional rock format of Acumen Nation.

Sutures
Acumen Nation Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All to reveal that nothing is the answer, a call to arms
Because your legs are shattered and battered, not fit for the course
Alienation from something that's sunk in the heart, as it rips you apart
Do not believe in all this nothing gold can ever stay
Pray that your brain delays the message...
The force of memory is the source of course!
Waxing lies like sutures, threading the veins of society
Chancing the pain and breaking the skin to pull out the heart of the matter
Terrify the mainstream bloodstream caught screaming on the TV show
The truth is known by all, spoken by none
Belittling myself with pride, it's what I am and what I know
When I am among you, sacrificial mental sloppage challenge me to sleep...
The source of memory is the force of course!
Waxing lies like sutures, threading the veins of society
Waxing lies like sutures, threading the veins of society
The lyrics to Acumen Nation's song Sutures explore themes of disillusionment and alienation from societal norms, as well as the struggle to find meaning in a world that seems to be destructive and chaotic. The opening lines suggest that even heroes and supernatural forces are unable to overcome the panic and chaos of the world, leading to a call to arms. The following lines describe physical and emotional injuries, both of which contribute to a sense of disconnect from one's own heart and from society at large. The refrain "Waxing lies like sutures, threading the veins of society" suggests that lies are the means by which society attempts to heal its wounds, even if they are ultimately ineffective.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of frustration and desperation, as the singer searches for some kind of truth or meaning in a world that seems to be devoid of both. The lines "The truth is known by all, spoken by none" suggest that there is a widespread awareness of the problems in society, but no one is willing or able to address them. This leads to internal conflict for the singer, who feels a sense of pride at being different from the mainstream, but also a sense of belittlement and isolation.
Overall, the lyrics to Sutures are a powerful exploration of the human struggle to find meaning and connection in an increasingly fragmented and chaotic world. The use of medical imagery and language (e.g. sutures, threading) adds to the sense of physical and emotional pain that the singer is experiencing, while the driving beat and distorted guitar riffs create a sense of urgency and intensity that matches the lyrics' tone.
