The Festival Song
Adam & Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ahhhh
ohhh I believe we have to live to die just to give
I wanted you to say you play with me
Now for you to touch me
To reach out and cut me
Just like my mother said you'd stand in my way

Don't know it's not allowed to be a party
You got a hole lot of good money, to live it.
You got a hole lot of good money, for nothing.
Here's coming down a cannonball,
Stand backwards looking up at your girl in the hotel bed
And here's a look back to Babylon
What you feeling now the kids gonna get the best of you
And you'r standing in the doorway
Draggin your dick back to some place to lay
Yeah you'r standing in the doorway
Don't care what she's saying.

Don't know it's not allowed to be a party

You got a hole lot of good money, to live it.
My god you trade money for your honey

Overall Meaning

The Festival Song by Adam & Joe is a song that seems to be about living life to the fullest, regardless of societal norms and expectations. The chorus, "Don't know it's not allowed to be a party, you got a whole lot of good money to live it," suggests that there are rules and restrictions on how to enjoy life, but those rules can be broken. The lyrics also mention the idea of sacrifice and giving, as the line "I believe we have to live to die just to give" suggests that there is a purpose to life beyond just existing.

There are also references to relationships and sexual encounters in the song, such as "I wanted you to say you play with me, now for you to touch me, to reach out and cut me." There is a sense of urgency and desire in these lines, as if the singer is yearning for a deeper connection with someone else. The line "Just like my mother said you'd stand in my way" hints at some external force, like societal norms or parental expectations, that is preventing the singer from fully living their life.

Overall, The Festival Song is a fun and upbeat anthem that encourages people to live life to the fullest and break free from societal restrictions.

I love the idea of Adam doing this on his own, in his shed, probably into the early hours.

Oh god, what a perfectly wonderful song. It totally reminds me of some place or other I went with Tabitha and the kids last August. We had a marvellous time - little Arabella and St John spent the weekend doing Baby Yoga and Tibetan Disco with a friend of Tabithas while we got absolutely smashed off some pills my friend Sebastian bought back from Tunisia. I can't really remember too much and Tabitha gave birth to black twins in May but it was jolly good fun and Moby really was top notch.

You, Sir, are a jolly old japer!

Great live rendition on radio4 earlier in the week. I love his bug sessions too, go see them!! Great wizwaz. Really great. GREAT!

@KevinFoad

I just love that your boy there mouths the other actors lines when it’s not his turn.

Great song, great track, fun visuals - and great chaotic kids!

Now that's interesting... this comment clearly relates to a different Adam Buxton video. How did this happen? Went to comment but actually pressed Back on your browser so you were on the previous video you watched? I've nearly done that before.

I’m enjoying the ‘groove is in the heart’ effects. You need a big revolving podium to dance on.

@matthewjones2287

He's awesome!!! One of my faves and very underrated!!!

Another masterpiece from the Buxton stable! Dunno if you remember me but I did that rock version of the Text The Nation jingle. You did a great job on the vox man. I'm still walking around with a glow of chuffedness. Anyway, just thought I'd offer my musical services again should you require them. I do other genres of music apart from rock, including pop, reggae, and 14th century baroque. And bossanova. Hey don't diss the Boss. If you're up for another collab, gimme a hoot. Cheers Lee

@YupIknowthatfeeling

You did that? I love that version!
