Adam Barnes Lyrics

With the sun applying tan across our faces
We were worn down to ground, but we'd seen so many places
And as the weather left to bring a new horizon
We saw buildings in the sky, we'd thought we never find them
Bodies leaving light behind us
We were the only ones left to find this
Where nobody can find us
I'll leave you in the morning light
Holding lighters to the sky,
We'll escape into the night
And as the city soon approaches we'll get older
But none the wiser to the fact it's getting colder
And the lights begin to dim we'll go missing
Casting mannequins of people to descend within the city
So hold me like wind, it's the company I've missed
and thats the only thing.
And we will go
Where nobody can find us
I'll leave you in the morning light
Holding lighters to the sky,
We'll escape into the night
And we will go
Setting sail for city
'Cause we die for ourselves
But we'll die for the chance
To be left with the girl that made it worth living.
(ba ba da oh)
It falls into place,
Like a satellite falls from grace
The city falls back to me, won't you fall back to me?
Yesterday I took the city with my friends
We were walking down the highest road that I'd ever been
With the sun applying tan across our faces
We were worn down to ground, but we'd seen so many places.
The lyrics of the song "Mannequins" by Adam Barnes describe a journey of two individuals who are seeking refuge in a city where nobody can find them. The opening lines paint a scenic picture of walking down the highest road with a tanning sun. They have been to many places and have seen so much that they feel like their journey is coming to an end. The weather clears up as they find buildings in the sky, a place they never thought they'd discover. As they walk, they leave a trail of light behind them, indicating that they are the only ones seeking this particular city. They then go on to express that they will escape into the night, holding their lighters to the sky, leaving nothing behind but their story.
As the city approaches, the two individuals feel that they are getting older and wiser but not noticing the fact that the city is getting colder. They start to lose themselves to the surroundings and become like mannequins of themselves, as they descend deeper into the city. They realize they need each other's company to be able to hold onto anything. The final lines describe how they will set sail for the city and will die for the chance to be left with the girl that made their life worth living. The song leaves an open ending, symbolizing the ambiguity of the future.
Overall, the song's interpretation centers around two persons going through a reflective journey to find peace, freedom, and happiness, leaving behind a trail of light wherever they go.
