Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.

Red bricks drop from her vagina
Oh, her lips taste just like sunk ships
But her breasts taste just like breakfast
There's her hand now on the cock sock
Filled with white tears from the thrift store
She's an eyesore in her red dress
I'm the ghost of her deceased when she said
Give us back our lives
Leave him, Carolina
Everything's just fine
Refill my prescription
Until next time
I get so lost inside the rooms inside my mind
California presidente
Cogi mucho estoy cansado
Dostoevsky, Fab Moretti
Antiseptic, complimentary
There's her hand now on the cock sock
Filled with white tears from the thrift store
She's an eyesore in her red dress
I'm the ghost of her deceased when she said
Give us back our lives
Leave him, Carolina
Everything's just fine
Refill my prescription
Until next time
I get so lost inside the rooms inside my mind
Goodnight, sweetheart
Flying high on birth control
She knows the pregnancy will show
That she smells nice when you look twice
Who's your boyfriend, Carolina?
And it's goodnight, sweetheart
Flying high on birth control
She knows rejections in her bones
Carolina, she's from Texas
Red bricks drop from her vagina
Carolina

Carolina
The lyrics of the song Carolina by Adam Green are complex and abstract, creating a surreal depiction of a person named Carolina who is from Texas. The lyrics appear to describe a woman who is sexually active and has a promiscuous lifestyle. The phrase "red bricks drop from her vagina" suggests that Carolina is destructive in some way. The lyrics also seem to imply that Carolina is involved in drug use and is struggling with some form of mental health issue. The line "I'm the ghost of her deceased when she said" adds a haunting element to the song, further implying that Carolina is haunted by her past decisions and that her mental state is precarious.
The chorus repeats the words "Give us back our lives, leave him, Carolina, everything's just fine, refill my prescription, until next time, I get so lost inside the rooms inside my mind." This indicates that Carolina's mental state is a recurring issue and that she is unable to break free from her destructive habits. The chorus may also imply that those around her are worried about her well-being and want her to change her ways.
Overall, the lyrics of the song Carolina are open to interpretation and can be viewed as a commentary on modern society and the struggles people face in dealing with mental health issues, drug use, and sexual promiscuity.
