Not always what you seem
And though my heart may break when I awake
Let it be so
I only know, Ruby, it's you
They say, Ruby you're like a song
You don't know right from wrong
But from the start, who stole my heart?
Ruby, it's you
I hear your voice and I must come to you
I have no choice what else can I do?
They say, Ruby you're like a flame
Into my life you came
And though I should beware
Still I don't care you thrill me so
The song "Ruby" by Adam Wade is a love song that speaks of a woman named Ruby as if she were an enigma, a mystery to be solved. The first verse alludes to the fact that Ruby is not always as she seems and that the singer's heart may break when he awakes from the dream-like state Ruby has put him in. The second verse speaks of Ruby like a song that the singer cannot resist. He sees the pain in her eyes and yet, from the start, Ruby has stolen his heart. He cannot resist her voice and he feels that he must come to her.
The chorus of the song repeats “Ruby, it’s you” which reinforces the notion that Ruby is the only one for him. The final verse compares Ruby to a flame and sings of how she has strolled into the singer's life, arousing emotions that he should be wary of. Yet, despite the dangers, he cannot resist her as she thrills him so.
Overall, the song paints a picture of an irresistible love that even the singer cannot control. It’s a song about the inexplicable attraction that one person can have for another.

This is a beautiful song on the movie: A Bronx Tale
@stevevilinsky7464
The song comes from an obscure 1952 film “Ruby Gentry “, starring Jennifer Jones and Charlton Heston. You’ll probably hear the song a 100 times before you see the film.

Adam Wade worked in Jonas Salk’s polio vaccine. A haunting arrangement, and in my opinion, the best recording of that great song.
