Tired Eyes
Adler Xcvi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Back when I was seventeen
I wore my heart out on my sleeve
Now I'm tripping off the memories
When we ain't got no place to be
We were racing in our shitty cars
Blasting the radio up and down the boulevard
It didn't matter what we had
We didn't give a fuck about who we were

Now your
Moving on to better things
Got a nine-to-five job and a college degree
Guess you bought into the fallacies
Girl I've got to ask you
Whatever happened to the dreams we dreamt up
Laying in the grass looking at the stars
We didn't give a fuck about who we were

Fall in love at the club every night
Love the way you watch me with those tired eyes
Take me home, home, home for the night
Make everything alright

Back when I was twenty-three
I got a job just ain't for me
And they always singing ooh, ooh
Same song on the radio fifteen times a day
Always messing with my attitude
'Cause they know that I don't give a damn about the biz
But I've got a hundred bills to pay
And it's just the way it is

Now I'm
Getting tired of the working scene
Got a nine-to-five job and college degree
Now I'm stressing bout reality
Girl I've got to tell you
I wanna be there when you wake up hungover
Saturday nights ain't never been sober
Would've thought life would have been a bit bolder

Fall in love at the club every night
Love the way you watch me with those tired eyes

Take me home, home, home for the night
Make everything alright

Overall Meaning

In Adler Xcvi's song "Tired Eyes", he reminisces about the past and his carefree teenage years, when he would race in cars with his friends and blast the radio up and down the boulevard, not caring about who they were. Now in his twenties, he's struggling with the nine-to-five job that's just not for him and constantly hearing the same song on the radio fifteen times a day, causing him to feel worn out by the daily grind. He longs for the past, where he didn't stress about reality and could fall in love at the club every night with someone who looked at him with tired eyes.

The chorus, "fall in love at the club every night, love the way you watch me with those tired eyes, take me home, home, home for the night, make everything alright", seems to represent a somewhat escapist attitude, where Xcvi wants to forget about his mundane life for a while and just lose himself in the moment with someone who understands him. It's a bittersweet song, with a somewhat melancholy tone and wistful lyrics that capture the feeling of nostalgia and the longing for something that was never really there in the first place.
