Adoniran Barbosa Lyrics

nunca pegar no batente e viver forgadamente.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Adoniran Barbosa's song "Conselho de Mulher" tells the story of how God created man to live a life of leisure and never have to work. However, after creating woman from Adam's rib, man is now burdened with the responsibility of working to provide for his family. The singer of the song laments the fact that he must work and cannot live a life of leisure like how God originally intended.

The chorus of the song, "pogressio, pogressio. eu sempre iscuitei falar, que o pogressio vem do trabaio. então amanhã cedo, nóis vai trabalhar," emphasizes the importance of work and how progress comes from it. The singer acknowledges that he has wasted time in the past living a carefree lifestyle and dancing the night away, but is now inspired by the advice of women to work hard and achieve progress.

Line by Line Meaning

(spoken) when god made man,
Back in the day, when God created mankind,

he wanted to make a creature who was never hungry
He aimed to create a being who never felt hunger,

and whose fate was to never work and live freely.
And whose destiny was to wander around without having to work and be free.

Man was happy as long as God wished it.
Man was content as long as God intended it to be so.

But then God took Adam, made a rib woman, and from then on, man works for her.
But then God took one of Adam's ribs to create a woman, and since then, men have worked for women.

Nevertheless, men say a prayer every day.
Regardless, men still pray every day.

If you want to take something good from me, take my job. Not the woman!
If you want to take something precious from me, take my job. Don't touch my woman!

Progression, progression.
Progress, progress.

I have always heard that progression comes from working.
I have always been told that progress comes from labor.

So tomorrow morning, we'll work.
So tomorrow morning, we'll labor.

We wasted so much time on bohemian lifestyle.
We wasted a lot of time living the bohemian life.

Dancing day and night, cutting a caper without ever stopping.
Dancing day and night, without ever stopping to rest.

Now I'm hearing women's advice.
Now I'm listening to women's advice.

Tomorrow I'll work, if God wants, but I don't think he does.
Tomorrow, I'll work if God wills it, but I don't think he does.
