River
Ador Dorath Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ancestors who gave birth to us
Man fish, woman bird
Sleeping on the river bed.
I put memories on water
And my lips touched the sky
Water took my name away
And join it with ashes
I looked for river
Ancestors who gave birth to us
Man fish, woman bird
Sleeping on the river bed.
My words will ripple the surface
And bones will move the land.
River bed give birth to life
For there is not the end
that would not be
The beginning
The song "River" by Ador Dorath is a poetic exploration of ancestry and the cyclical nature of life and death. The lyrics suggest a search for a mythical river that is tied to the origins of humanity, with lyrics referring to "ancestors who gave birth to us" and "man fish, woman bird." The singer puts his memories on the water, perhaps as a way to connect with his past, and his lips touch the sky, suggesting a spiritual connection to the divine. However, the water takes his name away and joins it with ashes, implying that even our names and identities are temporary in the grand scheme of things.
In the second verse, the singer's words will "ripple the surface," suggesting that his own actions and words can have an impact on the world around him. He speaks of bones moving the land, perhaps a metaphor for how the actions of our ancestors continue to influence us today. The river bed gives birth to life, suggesting that even death can be seen as a continuation rather than an end. The final lyrics, "there is not the end that would not be the beginning," encapsulate this cyclical idea of life and death, where every ending is also a new beginning.
