After recording a 12" of "Sunshine Smile" (b/w "I’ll Be Your Saint" and "Breathless") that was pressed to be released on record producer Pat Collier’s ‘Money To Burn,’ label the band received a gushing review in the NME. They signed to Creation Records in 1992, and after a UK tour supporting Curve they released their first single, a re-recording of "Sunshine Smile," in May of that year. Distancing themselves from the shoegaze movement by attempting to be more outspoken than traditional shoegazers, Adorable were briefly seen along with other bands Suede and The Verve as being a part of a new movement tagged ‘New Glam,’ a label attributed to Fijalkowski’s assertion that "we want to put the glamour back into pop." "Sunshine Smile" was NME’s Single of the Week, and topped the Indie Singles chart as well as entering the mainstream UK single top 100 charts for three weeks. A backlash in the press against the band’s outspoken image immediately followed, and the band were never to be interviewed in the mainstream UK press after their debut single. The band released "I’ll Be Your Saint," "Homeboy" and "Sistine Chapel Ceiling" (NME single of the Week), which all went into the Top 5 in the Indie charts, but failed to enter the mainstream Top 75. The album Against Perfection, released in 1993, went to #70 in the album charts, and the band toured the USA, Europe, Australia & Japan.
The second album, Fake, was seen as a far more introspective album, which Fijalkowski himself suggests was the result of the band feeling vulnerable. Although two singles ("Kangaroo Court" & "Vendetta") again entered high in the Indie Singles chart, the album failed to dent the mainstream Top 75, and strained relations both within the band and with Creation resulted in the band announcing their split onstage in Brussels in late 1994.
In subsequent years, the band has been re-classified as being part of the shoegaze movement. Bands such as Ash & Oasis have in the past acknowledged their admiration of the band.
Subsequent to the band’s demise Robert Dillam moved to Scotland where he joined The Zephyrs, whilst Fijalkowski went on to form the band Polak, who signed to One Little Indian Records.

I've been trying so hard to get you out of my eyes
I've been drinking your words every night
I've been drinking my dreams dry
I've spent sixteen months trying to forget you
Then a black-and-white film plays in my mind
Where we broke for the border in an open-top sportscar
And we promised ourselves such implausible things
Told each other our impossible dreams
And you know
Love is easy in my movie show
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I want to forget you
Then I flashback
Flashback to a time of stolen memories
We are tied by our lies, we are tied by history
And so we're handcuffed together, like it or not
And drinking our dreams is all that we've got
And the barman just smiles
Oh god, he's seen it all before
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I can never forget you
I can never forget
I spent sixteen months trying to forget you
Then a black-and-white film plays in my mind
Where we broke for the border in an open-top sportscar
And married, in a town much like mine
And so we're handcuffed together, like it or not
And drinking our dreams is all that we've got
And the barman just smiles
Oh god, he's seen it all before
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I want to forget you
Oh, I can never forget you
The lyrics of Adorable's song, Road Movie, convey the struggle of trying to forget someone who has left an indelible mark on one's heart and mind. The verse "I've been trying so long to get you out of mind/I've been trying so hard to get you out of my eyes" reveals the desperation of the singer to erase the memory of their ex-lover. The line "I've been drinking your words every night/I've been drinking my dreams dry" signifies that the singer is still trying to hold on to the past and is struggling to let go.
The song takes an interesting turn as the singer experiences a flashback to a time of "stolen memories" and "impossible dreams" when they were with their ex-lover. The line "Love is easy in my movie show" suggests that the singer is romanticizing their past with the ex-lover, and the happy memories are like scenes from a movie. However, the singer quickly snaps out of the flashback and realizes that they are now "handcuffed together, like it or not" with the ex-lover and their memories. The barman's smile suggests that the singer's story is not unique, and many others have gone through similar experiences.
Overall, Road Movie is a poignant song that explores the complexities of love and the pain of trying to forget someone. The singer's struggle to let go of their past is relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak.
