Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

Più di un mese a Saint-Tropez
Poi m'hai detto, cocorito
Non mi compri col patè
E sei scappata a Malibù
Con un grossista di bijoux
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
Tu regina di Pigalle
Indossavi un pechinese
Ed un triangolo di strass
Ti ho detto vieni via con me
Tu mi hai detto sì
Io ti ho detto ripasserò
Ma no! monsieur, tu ne preoccupe pas, ma vai
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
E ora sono sulle spese
In balia degli usurai
Sovvenziono quattro streghe
Per poi sapere dove stai
E tuo marito sta
Qui da me
Che mangia e dorme come un re
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Dove sei
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Son tre mesi che ti aspetto
In quel solito bistrot
Ho firmato un metro quadro
Di cambiali agli usurai
Ma più niente so di te
Forse un giorno ritornerai
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
Susanna, Susanna, Susanna, Susanna
Mon amour
Io ti aspetto
Mon amour
The lyrics of Adriano Celentano's song SUSANNA depict a man who is hopelessly in love with a woman named Susanna. He describes how he followed her to different exotic locations and how he showered her with gifts, but she still left him and ran away with a jewel wholesaler to Malibu. The singer reminisces about the time he spent with Susanna in Pigalle, Paris, where she was a queen and he was just a tourist from Ticino. He recounts how she wore a Pekingese dog and a triangle of rhinestones. The singer pleads with Susanna to come back to him and describes how he is now in debt and funding witches to locate her. Meanwhile, Susanna's husband is living comfortably with him, eating and sleeping like a king.
The song SUSANNA is a melancholic tale of unrequited love and the difficulties that come with it. Susanna is a symbol of love, adventure, and escape, and the man's desperate attempts to woo her reveal his vulnerability and desperation. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and heartache, as the singer is left wondering where Susanna is and whether she will ever come back to him. The use of foreign place names such as Portofino, Saint-Tropez, and Malibu adds to the sense of exoticism and adventure, while the reference to witches gives the song a slightly surreal and mystical quality.
