Write Me A Letter
Aerosmith Lyrics

Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
I'm goin' away (yes it has)

Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
I'm goin' away (yes it is)

Well I've been away forever
Suicide's crossin' my mind
Well I'll never, never get so far behind
I said, the ways of the night are evil
Without that Lord of Day
But I'll never, never get so far away

I said write me
Write me
Write me
Write me
I said write me
Write me
Write me

Well there's nothin' I can see
That'd ever make me
Want to be without her
She's good, she good to me
Said there's no way to explain
The kind of feelin' that you get out in the
She good, she good to me
She good, she good to me
I love her

Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
I'm goin' away (yes it has)

Write me a letter
Write me a letter
Write it today
I'm goin' away (yes it is)

Well I've been away forever
Suicide's crossin' my mind
Well I'll never, never get so far behind
Well I've been so many places
Hidin' from the wind and the rain
But you could write me a letter
For to save me from goin' insane

Write me
Excite me
Write me

Write me

Write me
Write me...

Overall Meaning

Aerosmith's song "Write Me a Letter" seems to be about a person who is leaving their loved one and asking them to write them a letter while they are gone. The first verse sets the tone and repeats the request to write a letter, as well as emphasizing the sense of urgency by saying "I'm goin' away." In the second verse, the singer reveals that he has been away for a long time and that he is struggling with difficult thoughts, such as the idea of suicide. However, he also states that despite the darkness of night, he will never get too far away from the light of the Lord.

The chorus returns to the main request to write a letter, and the third verse reveals the reason why the singer is so eager to receive letters from his loved one. He explains that there is "nothin' I can see that'd ever make me want to be without her," and that she is "good" to him in a way that cannot be explained. Thus, the letter becomes a source of comfort and connection in the face of separation and isolation.

Overall, the song seems to express both the pain of separation and the hope of reunion through the power of communication. By asking for a letter, the singer is seeking a tangible reminder of their love and a way to stay connected despite the physical distance between them.

I started really getting into their music during the summer of 2018, before my junior year of college. That winter, I started exploring their earlier music, so I listened to their first album, including this track. Definitely one of my favorites to this day.

Welcome, I'm here for nostalgic reasons. They aren't even one of my favorite groups anymore, but in the 70s they were. This album and Rocks are about the only ones I still listen to once in a while. Good stuff though. Not that they don't have other stuff that's worth listening to, but as far as whole albums, I recommend this and Rocks. I'm in my 50s and also listened to punk and metal back then too. Once I heard stuff like Pink Floyd and Hendrix and Black Sabbath, it was hard for me to get as excited about Aerosmith after that.

It was 1975. My best friend Joe Stricker and I hitchhiked 50 miles in a driving rain to see the lads. A worthy endeavor.;)
