Hymn to the Sun
Aesma Daeva Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To bright palace of gold sun
I fly on flaming steed
To steer my father's god wings
O please, fulfill my dream

My queen is the bright-haired sun
Herald young horse master
Crescendo the dawn chorus
Bow to bronzen pilot
As Pantheon blessed sky father
Fly to the gods:
Few mortals have flown on wings

Fierce idols drive blood son
Through black heavens
So how shall I dream?
I'll weave a new verse each dawn for you

I fear I follow illusion
Is this my final veil?

The mirage of the phoenix
From ashes daily arises

Overall Meaning

The song "Hymn to the Sun" by Aesma Daeva is a powerful tribute to the beauty and power of the sun, as well as a plea for the fulfillment of a dream. The first verse speaks of riding on a flaming steed to the "bright palace of gold sun" in order to "steer [the] father's god wings" and fulfill a dream. This dream is not specified, but it is clear that it is something significant and meaningful to the singer. The second verse speaks of the sun as a queen, with the "bright-haired sun" being the singer's queen. The young horse master is heralded, and the dawn chorus crescendos, with everyone bowing to the bronzen pilot as they fly to the gods. The third verse speaks of "fierce idols" driving "blood son" through the "black heavens," and asks how the singer is to dream in the face of such danger. The singer decides to weave a new verse each dawn for their queen, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. The final verse speaks of the singer's fear that they are following an illusion, but that they will continue to rise up from ashes like a phoenix and new dreams will continue to arise.

One interesting fact about the song is that Aesma Daeva is a neoclassical darkwave band that combines various genres of music, including metal, gothic, and classical. The song "Hymn to the Sun" reflects this combining of genres, with its classical references and heavy metal sound. Another interesting fact is that the band's name is based on the ancient Persian demon Aeshma, which means "wrath" or "fury." This demon was thought to be responsible for spreading disease and insanity. Despite the band's name, they do not write exclusively about dark or demonic themes. In fact, many of their songs focus on themes of nature, beauty, and spirituality.

Another interesting fact about the lyrics to "Hymn to the Sun" is that they incorporate references to Greek mythology, as Pantheon is mentioned as the sky father. The phoenix, which is also mentioned in the final verse, is a mythological bird that is said to be reborn from its own ashes. The song also references the idea of flying on wings, which has been a common metaphor for transcendence and escape throughout history.

@Griefshire16 It seems that you're right... But it's quite strange because Melissa Ferlaak sang some songs from "Dawn of the New Athens" with Aesma Daeva. There is a DVD called "Last rites" with MF singing the songs from "Dawn of the New Athens"

Griefshire16

@ploermel56490 Aesma Daeva were just presenting some of the new songs, and it also was like Melissa´s last performance goodbye and lets say that the songs were like the demo versions with Melissa´s voice of some of the songs that would be included on the new album,"ALL" with Lorí Lewis voice! There are no studio versions of the new songs with Melissa on them! ^^

Griefshire16

@ploermel56490 Oh yeah I have "Last Rites" too,it comes in the double CD version of "DOTNA" which I have. and yes Melissa is singing on it,but she just sang "SOME" songs of the (upcoming album) at that time. That concert was performed and recorded before the realising of the album.
