Salsa has been a hugely popular style in Central and West Africa since the 1940s-1950s, and the goal of Africando was to merge salsa rhythms from both sides of the Atlantic, mainly based on the African salsa tradition.
Africando was initiated by West African producer Ibrahim Sylla, Malian arranger Boncana Maiga (of Fania All Stars) and legenday charanga singer Ronnie Baro. Some of the musicians initially involved were: Pape Seck (ex member of Star Band), Nicholas Menheim (associate of Youssou N'Dour), and Medoune Diallo (formerly with Orchestre Baobab).
The first two albums were a big success both in Africa and in the rest of the world. Singer Pape Seck died in 1995, and was replaced by Gnonnas Pedro from Benin (who died August 2005) and Ronnie Baro of Orquestra Broadway.
For the latest albums, well known African musicians, such as Tabu Ley Rochereau, Koffi Olomide, Salif Keita, Sekouba Bambino, Amadou Balake; and Thionne Seck were invited. This new constellation led to the new name Africando All Stars. Whilst in the beginning, the songs were Latin classics sung in wolof language or a mix of wolof and spanish, newer songs were African classics, redone with latin rhythms and instrumentation. With both approaches, Africando has been equally successful.
Colombia mi corazon
Africando Lyrics

sanativo eres Colombia a mi corazón
Tesoros de esperanza así son la gente
en el país que yo quiero tanto con tu paisaje bonito
yo canto a tus montañas y tus playas cercas
The lyrics in Africando's song Colombia Mi Corazon praise Colombia for its beauty and richness. The singer expresses their love for Colombia and how they take great care in cherishing the country's green fields, flowery gardens, sweet-scented air, and its ability to uplift and heal. The song also highlights the people of Colombia, who the singer describes as treasures of hope. The chorus repeats the title of the song, which translates to "Colombia, My Heart," emphasizing the singer's love and admiration for the country.
The lyrics further describe how the singer finds solace and healing in Colombia, even on rainy and cloudy days. The rain does not dampen their love for the country, as it still feels silky and velvet-like on their skin. The singer mentions the beauty of the country's mountains and beaches, with red and white sand, showcasing the variety of landscapes found in Colombia. The second verse further emphasizes the beauty of Colombia's surroundings as the sky illuminates while the sun shines and the air fills with sweetness, almost intoxicating the singer, making them fall in love with Colombia repeatedly.
Overall, the song Colombia Mi Corazon is a tribute to the country's beauty and the singer's love for Colombia, recognizing it as a place of hope, healing, and wonder.
