His best-known song is the 2001 hit "Because I Got High", which gained popularity through Napster, local radio play, a feature on Howard Stern's radio show, and the 'stoner' movie 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' (and accompanying soundtrack). His other most popular song, "Crazy Rap", is often referred to as "Colt 45" because of its lyric "Colt 45 and two Zig Zags".
Afroman is also fond of referencing his independence from record labels and the "corporate world" and cites himself as an example of how an artist can take recording and distribution into their own hands.
In 2014 Afroman became a spokesman for NORML and Weedmaps, remade "Because I Got High" in favor of legalization, and released the EP "One Hit Wonder" and concept album "The Frorider."

The lyrics to "Trip" by Afroman (愛内里菜) explores the idea of the power of imagination and how our thoughts can either make us feel good or bad. The song starts by saying that sometimes our imagination smells like pleasure and it fills our hearts with sweet, sweet fantasies. Other times it has the scent of fear and it's full of bitter, bitter delusions that break our heart. The lyrics then describe how we're trapped in a small space in our mind, and how we're constantly looping between positive and negative thoughts. The song talks about how we experience heaven and hell through our repeated thoughts and questions if we will ever get out of this cycle.
The chorus of the song talks about catching your brand new day and following the scent of a rose-colored fragrance. The verse encourages not to be alone in your troubles and to sing a song together. It also says that during sleepless nights, one should party under the disco ball and in the morning light, one will find their way. In the second verse, the song talks about how our emotions are fickle and they can either expand or shrink, and even though they change shape freely, they can't always return to their original form.
