The oeuvr… Read Full Bio ↴Progressive rock band formed in Budapest, Hungary in 1986.
The oeuvre of After Crying stands unparalleled in Hungarian music palette, and is also rare in international comparison.
The aim of this creative community has ever been to compose contemporary, up-to-date classical music that is possible to understand for many people – since it uses elements of today’s everyday musical idiom; and at the same time is able to convey deep meaning at a high artistic level, dealing with serious issues of our time.
A kind of "up-to-date classical music" that addresses both its own contemporaries and eternity at the same time. On the stage, their regular instrumentarium ranges from classic-acoustic instruments (cello, trumpet, piano, flute) to the standard setup of a modern rock band. From time to time they play shows with a chamber or symphony orchestra. On their studio-albums countless variations of classical and modern compositional methods and instrumentation appear, from acoustic chamber lineup to 21st century symphonic and electronic sounds.
All these are mounted in an organic dramaturgy, where the pieces ranging from song-format to long instrumental compositions all find their appropriate content. While heavily influenced by Emerson, Lake and Palmer or King Crimson, they added a number of unique elements to their sound. Keyboard player Vedres Csaba was the primary composer during his tenure with the band, though others took up the slack without a significant change in style. After leaving, Csaba formed Townscream.

After Crying Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
nem tudja, hogy hazamehet onnan, hogy van
a kapun kívül egy igazi világ, rettegni fog és
iszonyodni az óriáskeréktől, a hullámvasúttól,
a kísértetkastélytól.
These lyrics depict the experience of life as being similar to a well-designed amusement park. The singer reflects on the fear and horror that can arise when one is unaware of the possibility of leaving this constructed park and entering into the real world outside its gates. The attractions within the park, such as the Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and haunted house, evoke feelings of terror and disgust.
However, if one knows that there is a warm homecoming awaiting outside, they can fall into the enchanted castle with laughter and a radiant face. They can even find amusement in the misfortune of their companion, who falls flat on their face, and willingly enjoy the thrill of being spooked by clever tricks. Trust in the safe love of one's mother and father is explored as a determining factor in the attitude one assumes towards life. If mistrustful, one becomes serious and suspicious. But if one knows they are cared for, they happily embrace all the foolishness and pranks.
In conclusion, the lyrics suggest that our earthly life can be compared to a visit to an amusement park. After this adventure, a warm lunch awaits in God's kingdom. The lyrics convey the idea that life can be filled with ups and downs, fears and joys, but having the assurance of a loving home and a heavenly destination can provide comfort and joy amidst it all.
