Vacant Black Stare
After the Fall Lyrics

And expectations are met
So raise the bar to the level
Turn to me, in your time of need
Turn to me, you planted the seed
Turn to me, you made me bleed
Turn to me, I fulfilled your dirty deeds
And with a vacant black stare
See through the lies that I bare
And what's left is reality
You found out the real me
So take the blindfold,
So take the blindfold off your eyes
Consume the lifestyle,
Consume the lifestyle that you hide
Read the signs that,
Read the signs that you deny
I am only human
And now the task is set
And expectations are met
So raise the bar to the level
Turn to me, in your time of need
Turn to me, you planted the seed
Turn to me, you made me bleed
Turn to me, I fulfilled your dirty deeds
And with a vacant black stare
See through the lies that I bare
And what's left is reality
You found out the real me
So take the blindfold,
So take the blindfold off your eyes
Consume the lifestyle,
Consume the lifestyle that you hide
Read the signs that,
Read the signs that you deny
I am only human
Hey now,
What you see is what you believe
Hey now,
what is to see it can not be seen
So take the blindfold,
So take the blindfold off your eyes
Consume the lifestyle,
Consume the lifestyle that you hide
Read the signs that,
Read the signs that you deny
I am only human
The song Vacant Black Stare by After the Fall appears to be about the idea of expectations and the pressure that comes with meeting them. The lyrics start off by stating that the task is set and expectations are met, followed by a call to raise the bar to the next level, indicating the desire for improvement and success. The following lines seem to be directed at someone who has relied on the singer in the past, possibly for their own benefit, as they ask them to turn to them in their time of need and highlight the sacrifices and pain they have endured for this person. However, the lyrics also suggest that this reliance may have been built on a foundation of lies, and that the true nature of the singer has been revealed through their vacant black stare.
The chorus then calls for the person to take off their blindfold and confront the reality of the situation, to read the signs that they may have denied or ignored before. The lyrics emphasize that the singer is only human, perhaps indicating that they too struggle with the pressure of expectations and the desire to succeed. The bridge repeats these themes before ending on the suggestion that what is seen may not always be believable, and that there may be more to the situation than meets the eye.
Overall, the song seems to be exploring the complex emotions and relationships that can arise when expectations are set and met, balancing the desire for success with the fear and uncertainty that can come with it. It also touches on the idea of self-discovery and the challenges of coming to terms with one's true nature.
