Demonique
Aim Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing′s going on
Except kids playing pranks, trick or treating, parking, getting high
I have the feeling you're way off on this
You have the wrong feeling
You′re not doing very much to prove me wrong
What more do you need?
I watched him for fifteen years, waiting for some secret, silent alarm
Death has come for you
There is no doubt there, sheriff
You can either ignore it, or you can help me stop it
More fancy talk...
Doctor, do you know what Haddonfield is?
Families. Children, all lined up in rows
Up and down these streets
You're telling me they're lined up for a slaughterhouse
They could be
Alright I′ll stay with you tonight
And if you are right
Damn you for letting him go
Damn you for letting him go

What have you done?
I haven′t done anything
You let him out
His own god damn doctor
I didn't let him out
I gave orders for him to be restrained
You let him out
The primary concern is that we stop him
I can′t stop him until I'm certain he′s dead
He was my patient for fifteen years
He became an obsession with me
Until I realized there was nothing within him
Neither conscience nor reason
That was even remotely human
An hour ago, I stood up and fired six shots at him
And he just got up and walked away
You couldn't have shot him six times
You think I am lying, sheriff?
I think you missed him
No man can take six shots
I told you that isn′t a man
It's the unconscious mind
We are all afraid of the dark inside ourselves
Damn you for letting him go

We are all afraid of the dark inside ourselves
It's the unconscious mind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Aim's song "Demonique" take inspiration from the horror film series, Halloween. The lyrics reflect the dialogue between the main characters in the movie, where the doctor is trying to convince the sheriff of the danger that is lurking in the town. The doctor has been studying and watching the antagonist, Michael, for 15 years and believes that he is a highly dangerous individual, and that death has come for the town's inhabitants. The sheriff initially does not believe this, but eventually agrees to stay with the doctor and help him stop Michael. Throughout the lyrics, there is a realization that humans possess an innate fear of the unknown darkness that lies inside them, and that Michael represents this darkness.

The dialogue in the lyrics serves as a metaphor for the fear that arises from the unknown and the uncontrollable aspects of life. Michael is portrayed as the embodiment of this fear, as he is not only a physical threat but a representation of the incomprehensible darkness that lurks inside the human mind. The conversation between the doctor and the sheriff highlights the fact that in order to face this fear, one must confront it head-on, and acknowledge that it exists within themselves.

@StrangeAttractor

me and my mate were smoking one afternoon in his Hackney flat when I put this album on. The TV was on silent in the background. We're just chatting and chilling but gradually he goes silent and gets distracted, turning to the TV. I follow his gaze. Demonique comes on. And while it took our stoned minds a minute to figure out what the flip we were looking at, it was no movie.... date of incident: September 11th 2001.

We are all afraid of the darkness inside ourselves.
