It's Later Than You Think
Aim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I thought you'd guess you'd probably lost
your only friend
words this deep take longer than
even you might think
for them to mend
Something that we'd all hide
it's much later than you think
change your thoughts or you'll
change your thoughts or you'll
Why do you hang from window ledges
won't you see what's waiting down below?
thank you for your ignorance
it hid you from the pain you didn't need to know
Something that we'd all hide
handling a suicide
it's much later than you think
change your thoughts or you'll
change your thoughts or you'll
The lyrics to Aims song It's Later Than You Think touch on the topics of depression, suicide and mental health. Aim sings about someone who is struggling with their mental health, someone who has lost their only friend and feels lost in the world. The lyrics suggest that the person is contemplating suicide and that this is something that they are hiding from the world, a dark secret that they are keeping to themselves.
The line "something that we'd all hide, handling a suicide" suggests that the issue of suicide and mental health is something that is often swept under the rug, something that people don't want to talk about or acknowledge. The song urges listeners to take action, to change their thoughts and to reach out to people who may be struggling with mental illness. The line "change your thoughts or you'll change your thoughts" is a call to action, urging listeners to take control of their own thoughts and to make positive changes in their own lives.
The song also speaks to the ways in which depression and mental illness can be isolating, making us feel alone and disconnected from others. The line "Why do you hang from window ledges, won't you see what's waiting down below?" suggests that the person is feeling trapped and hopeless, unable to see a way out of their struggles. The song urges listeners to show compassion and understanding towards those who are struggling with mental illness, to reach out a hand and offer support in any way they can.
Overall, the lyrics to It's Later Than You Think are a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health and the need to take action to support those who are struggling with mental illness.
