Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Switch me on
Play my sound
And close your eyes.

Switch me on
And stay around
And close your eyes.
Switch me on
Play my sound
And close your eyes.

Switch me on

And stay around
And close your eyes.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Air Jean-Michel Jarre's song Close Your Eyes, which appear to be simplistic at first glance, convey a deeper message of escape and transcendence through music. The repetition of the phrase "switch me on, play my sound, and close your eyes" encourages the listener to surrender to the music and allow it to transport them to another place. The singer of the lyrics confidently asserts their ability to evoke emotions through their music, urging the listener to fully embrace it by closing their eyes and immersing themselves in the experience.

Furthermore, the repeated line "and stay around" suggests a desire for the listener to remain present and not be distracted by external factors. By staying focused on the music and allowing themselves to be carried away by it, they can tap into a deeper sense of awareness and mindfulness. Essentially, the song invites us to turn off the external noise, embrace the music, and discover the beauty and power that can be found within ourselves.

love this new offering from JMJ. So interesting and in many parts beautiful. Music needs to transcend and I feel transcended. Thank you JMJ.

It's a history of synth music. It starts with typical analogue Kraftwerk sounds, goes through Fairlight sampling and finishes being played on an ipod. Nearly all classic synths were used in the making of this track as far as I'm aware.

Exactly this. Jarre showing why he has been in the game so long. Genius.
