The band consists of a trio of high school and university friends: Cory Adrian (shredding guitar/vocals), Matt Simmonds (keyboard champion/bass/vocals), and Graham Drummond (lead drums).

The band released its debut EP The Industry in July 2009 and has subsequently played numerous shows throughout Southern Ontario. The singles Industry and Screwdriver have received airplay on several college radio stations throughout the region.

@Louis It's tricky to compare the book to the movie because the movie is intentionally presented in opposition to the book. The book is pro-Fascism, and the movie is anti-Fascism. Indeed, even though the book is a "war story" it barely gives any attention to the actual combat, it's all about the political systems of a fascist military state and how great those systems are. Whereas in the movie, it's clear that the whole war is essentially a dick-waving contest for the military leadership, and they deploy their troops in ways that are supposed to look good and inculcate 'warrior spirit' in their soldiers. The whole point is to indoctrinate the soldiers and make them devoted to the militarist state, and launching an invasion of this worthless desert planet and picking a fight with the bug aliens who live there is just a means to that end. Whether or not the Buenos Aires asteroid impact was an attack by the bugs or a natural disaster blamed on them is an open question. Maybe they did send the asteroid... if humans have FTL technology there's no reason the bugs couldn't. But either way, it's clearly a war of choice by the human political leadership.

@Aay'han Jaro Maybe it is great then. A lot of people seem to like it. I own a copy, I recently re-read it. I still don't like it much. But that's just me, and I doubt my opinion can be used as any real measure of greatness. The movie will always outshine the book for me though.

@Masemeno Nasaku Sure, but in the film they don't wear power armour, just flak jackets and helmets. I guess they could wear NVG instead of using flares but they're typically used by smaller teams trying to remain stealthy. In this battle there are hundreds of thousands of soldiers moving in massive formations, so stealth doesn't appear to be part of the strategy. Flares are cheaper and provide better vision and comfort for the soldiers than NVG would.

Again, I think the point of the Klendathu drop scene was to demonstrate how the humans underestimated the intelligence of the bugs. No real tactics, just masses of humans vs masses of bugs, with superior firepower expected to win. Later in the film they employ smarter, more conventional tactics and then they start to win.

Verhoven's Starship Troopers is a "tongue-in-cheek" adaptation of the novel. Verhoven has been on record saying he read the first few pages of the novel and hated it because he thought it was pro-fascist. Given he lived in The Netherlands during WW2, of course the guy hates anything related to pro-militarism. So what does he do? He satirizes the novel.

I've read the novel and watched the movie. I agree with Verhoven and think the film itself is better once you realize that the film represents the American Military Complex and is prescient of the future War on Terror post 9/11. No one paid attention to Starship Troopers in 1997, and look where we are now.

There is we just don't see it when the infantry is on the ground you can clearly see two squadrons of fighters heading towards the planet which implies they're being used to attack positions. I can only assume the plasma bugs are preventing these fighters from entering combat hence the mobile infantry going in with nukes to take them out.

This is why practical effects are always better than CGI. The spaceships hold up even today because they are actual models, whereas CGI looks laughable ten years later.

Starship Troopers was one of my favorites as a teenager, and it actually played a part in my decision to enlist in the Marine Corps. The first movie was awesome, but they fucked up the second as "spin-off" and the third wasn't really bad, but not good enough to really succeed to the master-piece that was the first movie !

Despite being a satire, they still managed to make this battle intensely thrilling and serious. In fact it feels less biased than a lot of the "historical" war movies.
