Firefly
Airiel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

hey, say you want me
don't you want me?
hey, I feel madly, I feel badly

the flame, the fire, the darklight
the chase erased by midnight
the sheet, the breeze, the slumber
the sweet embrace you offer
the spy, the glove, the footstep
the diary that she kept
the hint, the sigh, the weakness
what did you get yourself in?

hey, it's not over
come on over
hey, I feel madly, I feel badly
hey, it's not over
come on over
hey, say you want me
don't you want me?

I can show you how to win it all
I can tell you wanna win it all
what's the way you want to play?

a firefly can guide you
a firefly can guide you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Airiel's song Firefly are quite enigmatic and open to interpretation. The song seems to be telling a story of a relationship and the ups and downs that come with it. The singer seems to be addressing their partner and questioning their feelings towards them. The opening lines "hey, say you want me, don't you want me?" suggests that the singer might be feeling uncertain about the status of their relationship and seeking reassurance from their partner.

The following lines present a series of images that seem to represent different aspects of the relationship. The "flame, fire, darklight" could symbolize the intense passion and desire between the two lovers. The "chase erased by midnight" could be referring to the fleeting nature of their encounters. The "sheet, breeze, slumber" could represent moments of comfort and intimacy. The "spy, glove, footstep" and "diary that she kept" could suggest that there is an element of secrecy or mystery in their relationship. Finally, the "hint, sigh, weakness" seems to portray vulnerability and a sense of uncertainty.

The repeated lines "hey, it's not over, come on over, hey, say you want me, don't you want me" could be interpreted as a plea for resolution or commitment from the partner. The closing line "a firefly can guide you" could be seen as a metaphor for hope, suggesting that even in the darkness of uncertainty, there is a light that can lead you in the right direction.

@nixieNICLA

I like the feeling behind this song even though I really don't think any one person can show any other one person how to win it all. We win and lose together depending on what obstacles come between us and opportunities to experience moments of true love and joy. Here is one of my favorite from this band because the vocals and lyrics are still audible against some interesting layers of sound. Sort of like many shoes dancing under the currents of life's tempest and life's sunny days ...
