These achievements and several live performances led ‘Airport Impressions’ to be named ‘Best New Artist’ of 2008 at the Malta Music Awards. The band also won two other prestigious awards at the local ‘Bay Music Awards’ being the ‘Best New Comers’ and ‘Best Artists’ choice’.
The name itself reveals a feeling which most of us experience in moments when waiting in an airport. Such instants are not just an intuition for song writing but also for expression of feelings which surely is bound to be expressed in the upcoming debut album by ‘Airport Impressions’. The project was initially a combined effort of songwriters/musicians, Errol and Johann who had started as Riverstone way back in 2004 in local acoustic venues. They have experienced Ireland in 2005 for six months which was the main triggering inspiration of this project. In March 2008 they were in Germany to work on some songs from the album in the pipeline. Steve (drums) joined early 2008 contributing deeply in the band’s songwriting.
Berlin
Airport Impressions Lyrics

And a conversation falling
Somewhere downtown Berlin
Hang around behind the station
Paralyzing observations
Stone throws away from me
Stand close my district
Stay on my side in Berlin...
On a line turning to crystal
Colder than in the dream
Counting photographs and pictures
Sentimental spaces fixing
Time and time again
Stand close my district
Long rides are twisted
Stay on my side in Berlin...
In the song "Berlin," by Airport Impressions, the lyrics depict a sense of longing and nostalgia for a past time, perhaps a past relationship. The singer is in Berlin, and they are looking back on their memories, longing for someone or something. The lyrics "There's a revelation calling, and a conversation falling" suggest that the singer is looking for something meaningful, perhaps a deeper connection or understanding of the past. They continue to reflect on their time in Berlin, with lines such as "Paralyzing observations, stone throws away from me," which suggest that they are contemplating their surroundings and how they relate to the memories they hold.
As the song continues, the singer reminisces on sentimental spaces and pictures, counting them as they try to hold on to the memories. The line "On a line turning to crystal, colder than in the dream" suggests that the memories are becoming more distant and cold, as time passes. However, the singer still longs for the past, expressing this desire with the lines "Stand close my district, long rides are twisted, stay on my side in Berlin." These lyrics suggest that the singer wants someone to be with them, to share in their memories, and to understand their longing.
Overall, "Berlin" is a poignant portrayal of nostalgia and longing, with vivid imagery that captures the essence of the song's themes.
