Strangers
Aishi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now I'm walking home alone
Down the streets we used to walk before
And I'm trying to figure out
What you'd say if I showed up at your door
Would you think that I'm trying to win you back
And think I wanted more?
I just wanna talk to you
And I've been taking one step forward
And going two steps backwards since the day you left
And I've been running through it all in my mind,
Oh there is nothing to regret
Oh have you had enough time honey,
Won't you tell me now if you're ready yet
I just wanna talk to you

But you wanna be strangers, I can't have that
I'll be standing at your door, take your stuff back
So avoid me, call me crazy
I'll be looking through the crowds thinking maybe
That you'll see me
You saw me
You saw me
But you go and turn your back 'cause you saw me
You saw me
You saw me

Thinking that I could call you up
To say hello maybe once or twice
And now my friends are on your side,
Oh they keep on telling me that you were right
But I'm the type to keep on calling
Hoping that someday you'll change your mind
I just wanna talk to you

But you wanna be strangers, I can't have that
I'll be standing at your door, take your stuff back
So avoid me, call me crazy
I'll be looking through the crowds thinking maybe
That you'll see me
You saw me
You saw me
But you go and turn your back 'cause you saw me
You saw me
You saw me

But you go and turn your back on me now
But you go and turn your back on me now
But you go and turn your back on me now
But you go and turn your back on me now
But you go and turn your back on me now

You wanna be strangers

Overall Meaning

The song "Strangers" by Aishi is about a person who is struggling to come to terms with a break-up and is still hoping to reconcile with their ex-lover. The song commences with the singer walking alone on the same streets that they walked together with their former partner, pondering whether or not they should confront their ex by showing up at their door. The singer is unsure if their ex will interpret their visit as an attempt to win them back.

Furthermore, the singer seems to be stuck in a predicament where they are unable to move on, with every step they take forward, they take two steps backward since the day their ex left. They have been constantly reflecting on the relationship and trying to find closure or respite in their thoughts. However, there is no indication of any regret. Despite the fact that the singer's friends seem to favor the ex, the singer is persistent and continues to call even though they know that their ex wants to be strangers.

Moreover, the chorus signifies a pivotal realization for the singer that their ex's desire to remain strangers means that the relationship is over, leaving the singer feeling helpless and heartbroken. The singer realizes that they cannot change what has happened in the past, and as much as they crave to talk to their ex, it is best to move on as it would do no good to either of them. Aishi captures the essence of the heartbreak caused by a relationship that has run its course, and the futility of trying to cling to what is no longer there.
