Sorry Blame It On Me
Akon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm starting to learn more and more about responsibility
I realize that everything I do is affecting the people around me
So I wanted to take this time out
To apologize for things that I've done
And things that haven't occurred yet
And things that they don't wanna take responsibility for
I was on the road and you were alone
I'm sorry for the times that I had to go
I'm sorry for the fact that I did not know
That you were sitting home just wishing we
Could go back to when it was just you and me
I'm sorry for the times I would neglect
I'm sorry for the times I disrespect
I'm sorry for the wrong things that I've done
I'm sorry I'm not always there for my sons
I'm sorry for the fact that I'm not aware
That you can't sleep at night when I am not there
Because I'm in the streets like everyday
I'm sorry for the things that I did not say
Like how you are the best thing in my world
And how I'm so proud to call you my girl
I understand that there's some problems
And I'm not too blind to know
All the pain you kept inside you
Even though you might not show
If I can't apologize for being wrong
Then it's just a shame on me
I'll be the reason for your pain
And you can put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
I'm sorry for the things that he put you through
And all the times you didn't know what to do
I'm sorry that you had to go and sell those bags
Just tryna stay busy 'til you heard from dad
When you would rather be home with all your kids
As one big family with love and bliss
And even though pops treated us like kings
He got a second wife and you didn't agree
He got up and left you there all alone
I'm sorry that you had to do it on your own
I'm sorry that I went and added to your grief
I'm sorry that your son was once a thief
I'm sorry that I grew up way too fast
I wish I would've listened and not be so bad
I'm sorry that your life turned out this way
I'm sorry that the feds came and took me away
I understand that there's some problems
And I'm not too blind to know
All the pain you kept inside you
Even though you might not show
If I can't apologize for being wrong
Then it's just a shame on me
I'll be the reason for your pain
And you can put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
Said you could put the blame on me
You could put the blame on me
I'm sorry that it took so long to see
That they were dead wrong tryna put it on me
I'm sorry that it took so long to speak
But I was on tour with Gwen Stefani
I'm sorry for the hand that she was dealt
For the embarrassment that she felt
Just a little young girl tryna have fun
Her daddy should've never let her out that young
I'm sorry for Club Zen getting shut down
I hope they manage better next time around
How was I to know she was underage?
In a twenty one and older club they say
Why doesn't anybody wanna take blame?
Verizon backed out, disgracing my name
I'm just a singer tryna entertain
Because I love my fans, I'll take that blame
Even though the blame's on you
Even though the blame's on you
Even though the blame's on you
I'll take that blame from you
And you can put that blame on me
And you can put that blame on me
You can put that blame on me
And you can put that blame on me
And you can put that blame on me
And you can put that blame on me
In "Sorry Blame It On Me," Akon reflects on his actions and how they have impacted those around him. He acknowledges his previous lack of responsibility and the harm he has caused to his loved ones, including leaving his partner alone at home and neglecting his children. The song shows a sense of remorse and accountability for past actions. In the second verse, Akon apologizes to his mother for not being there for her when his father left her alone. He also expresses support for his sister, who turned to selling drugs to cope with the situation. However, Akon also tackles allegations that were made against him, including the closure of a club where an underage girl was admitted.
The chorus of the song is an acknowledgment of the fact that sometimes apologies are necessary, and it is not always easy to take responsibility for our actions. The narrative highlights how past actions and decisions can have long-lasting effects and trickle down consequences. The song offers a thoughtful reflection on accountability, and it is an attempt to make amends to those affected by our actions in the past.

"Akon took a step back from the spotlight by choosing to partake in the process of helping several countries in Africa, as opposed to continuing to make music as a supposedly proud African and not give back to it in some way, shape or form."
"Akon has a solar project for Africa named “Akon Lighting Africa” where he funds clean, sustainable solar systems to bring energy to African villages."
I call this being a real human, being brave and beeing a good person! Hats off!
@CatharticSense
Victor Stamenov What is giving back? If Akon wouldn't have nice songs or a good voice he would be screwed in the US. No one gave him anything, how can you "give" back then? People diddn't buy his songs because they wanted to give him money.
And the solar thing can give money or create a good image/goodwill wich equals money. How do you know he is giving anything?
@med8615
+Mister Quince| It is clear that he is giving, do some research on his organization. The difference between his org and other celebrity orgs is that he is there on the site personally helping out people in Africa, not just chilling at home while people praise him for making a charity. Even if his name is getting out there it's not like he is using that publicity to promote his new album or something, he's been out of the game for a while now. There are some celebrities that do something good to get publicity so people can buy their new album/product, he isn't doing that.
@VERITYandCHELSEA
Thank you for sharing this with us Victor & thank you Akon for trying to help towards Africa's devlopment.
