Last year Akurat gave almost 100 concerts becoming one of the most popular college groups. Their main asset is unique unpretentious style escaping classification. Some link them to reggae legends like Daab and Gedeon Jerubal and even to UB40. To others they are the heirs of the independent stars like Mr.Zoob, Kazik and Kult. AKURAT created their own recognizable style. Their music has loads of positive energy and reflects the joy of playing. It’s a mixture of rock with a solid dose of ska music and intriguing lyrics perfectly describing reality.
AKURAT was set up in November 1994 in Bielsko-Biała – the city in southern Poland called “the second Cracow” - by students with different professional aspirations - graphic designers, a filmmaker, an actor and two ”educated” musicians. The members of the band did not change and they are - Tomasz Kłaptocz (vocals, trumpet), Piotr Wróbel and Wojciech Żółty (guitars), Przemysław Zwias (saxophone, flute), Ireneusz Wojnar (bass) and Łukasz Gocal (drums). Their career begun with a few amateur contests, which brought them prizes (in Bielsko and Andrychów). Later they made their way to Przystanek Woodstock festival in Żary, where they performed three times (in 1998, 1999 and 2001) for thousands of people. They also gave concerts in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2001 AKURAT recorded their first album ”Pomarańcza” (Orange) – with hits: ”Hahaczyk”, ”Espania”, ”Droga długa jest” (Long is the road) and ”Lubię mówić z Tobą” (I like talking with you). Their next album ”Prowincja” (Province) was issued with their own resources and despite of little promotion turned out to be a success – singles ”Wiej-ska” and ”Do prostego człowieka” (To the simple man) – were on charts in independent radio stations.
Charismatic vocalist, great sound of brass, excellent guitarists and efficient rhythmic section are the main assets of the band, which will publish their new album “Fantasmagorie” (Fantasmagories) in late spring ‘2006. The album, with no doubt, will bring them right to the top of the Polish music scene.
Jestem Tym

Jest mi zimno pocę się
Jestem chłop i jestem pan
Jestem z kimś i jestem sam
Jest mi nudno jest ciekawie
Jestem całkiem jestem prawie
Jestem w środku jestem z boku
Jestem wojna albo pokój
Jestem tym czym chciałem nie być
Jestem tym bez potrzeby
Jestem bo dokonał się zamach
Na to co ja miałem w planach [x2]
Jestem pierwszy jestem w tyle
Nieomylny choć się mylę
Jestem sędzią i sądzonym
Winnym i uniewinnionym
Chociaż teraz jestem wrogiem
Przyjacielem też być mogę
Jestem zwrotką i refrenem
Wychowaniem szkołą genem
Jestem tym czym chciałem nie być
Jestem tym bez potrzeby
Jestem bo dokonał się zamach
Na to co ja miałem w planach [x2]
The lyrics for Akurat's song Jestem Tym explore the complex nature of human identity and the various contradictions and paradoxes that exist within the self. The opening lines of the song express the ups and downs of life, the way in which emotions and sensations can be fluctuating and contradictory. The singer notes that they can feel both good and bad, both cold and sweaty - revealing that life is not always straightforward or easy.
The rest of the song explores the idea of identity as something that is both fluid and fixed. The singer describes themselves as both a man and a leader (chłop i pan), both with someone and alone, sometimes bored and sometimes interested. They also describe themselves as being at the center and on the sidelines, encompassing both war and peace. This reveals that identity can be unstable and mutable, allowing for multiple roles and personas to exist at once.
However, despite the fact that identity can be multifaceted, the singer also notes that they are the person they never wanted to be (Jestem tym czym chciałem nie być). This suggests that there are certain expectations we all have for ourselves and that it can be difficult to live up to these standards. The final lines of the song suggest that something has happened to upset the singer's plans (dokonał się zamach) and that they are now left feeling adrift and uncertain about who they are.
