Brown was a star football quarterback at Mount Vernon High School in New York, but rejected an athletic scholarship to the University of Iowa to pursue a music career. In 1987, Quincy Jones selected Brown as the first winner of the Sony Innovators Talent Search. Subsequently, Brown went on to work with Jones on several projects, most notably the platinum single "Secret Garden" from Jones' double platinum album Back on the Block. On this recording, Brown was one of a quartet with Barry White, El DeBarge, and James Ingram.
His debut album from 1988, In Effect Mode, sold more than two million copies, topping the Billboard R&B chart for seven straight weeks. The album included his memorable single "Nite and Day", which topped the R&B singles chart and reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. He received numerous Grammy and American Music Award (AMA) nominations, and won an AMA for Best New R&B Artist. He also received several Soul Train Award nominations, and won the award for Best New Artist. He also won several New York Music Awards. In addition, Al's 900 phone line was third in generating revenue, following those for New Kids on the Block and Run-DMC.
As a writer and producer, Brown introduced the multi-platinum group Jodeci and teen R&B performer Tevin Campbell (also one of Quincy Jones's former protégés), as well as Faith Evans, Dave Hollister, Case, and Usher to the music scene.
On June 23, 2009, Al released his fourth studio album, Honey I'm Home. It features the hit song, "I Love It (Papi Aye Aye Aye)." The single peaked at #77 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and at #22 Adult R&B.

You're naturally mine.
You're naturally mine.
You're naturally mine.
You're naturally mine.
Tell me.
Please take my hand. Won't you understand girl?
I'm loving you and needing you more.
(no, no. no, no)
You're naturally mine. Yes, you are, yes, you are.
You're naturally mine. (no, no, no, no.)
You're naturally mine. Yes, you are, yes you are.
You're naturally mine. Hold me in you're arms.
Tell me. Why do you, baby, treat me the way you do? (treat me the way you do)
You know I loved you from the start. You turned away and broke my heart.
You got me feeling like I'm in the clouds. (no no no.)
Why, why, why, oh why, oh why do I need you the way I do? (no, no, no no, no)
You got me wanting you, I desire you. My heart's on fire for you girl.
So don't you ever go away, yeah.
You're naturally mine. Yes you are, yes you are, yes you are.
You're naturally mine. Please don't go away my baby.
You're naturally mine. Stay with my lady. (no, no, no, no)
You're naturally mine. Don't you leave me tonight.
Oh, no no. You've captured my heart, girl. (Not this time. not again, no.)
I do care always to share my love with you again. ooh ooh ooh.
Why, oh why, why, oh why do
I need you the way I do? (no, no, no, no, no no)
You got me wanting you, I desire you, my heart's on fire for you girl.
(hmm. I need you. {no, no, no, no.} for the rest of my life)
You're naturally mine. Yes you are, yes you are, yes you are.
You're naturally mine. Please don't go away my baby.
You're naturally mine. Stay with me my lady.
In Al B. Sure!'s song "Naturally Mine," the singer expresses his love and devotion to his significant other. The repeated refrain "You're naturally mine" reinforces his belief that their love is natural and meant to be. He questions why he loves her so much but doesn't get an answer. He then asks her why she treats him the way she does and explains that he loved her from the start, but she turned away and broke his heart. Despite this, he is still deeply in love with her and wants her to stay with him.
The lyric "you got me feeling like I'm in the clouds" suggests that the singer is on an emotional high but is unsure if his lover feels the same. He is afraid of losing her and pleads with her to stay with him. The repetition of "no, no, no, no" could signify his fears as he tries to reassure himself that she won't leave him.
